Brian to Perform Benefit Concert for ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease

January 30, 2009 - Warren Baptist Church, Augusta, GA

Stephen Lam, current Lakeside High School senior and Brian's brother, is the mastermind behind this event and developed the idea as a result of a senior project assignment.

ALS is short for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS affects nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. Muscles weaken and eventually lose function because of the person's inability to initiate and control all voluntary movements. Because of this, it is usually fatal.

All proceeds from ticket sales for this concert will be donated to The ALS Association for use in the local Augusta area. Stephen chose to raise money for The ALS Association because he and Brian personally know someone who was recently diagnosed with this disease.

Stephen wants to spread awareness of this debilitating disease and encourage others to support the work being done by the ALS organization serving the Augusta area. Doing this will allow Stephen to fulfill the requirements of his senior project, help The ALS Association increase local support, and give Brian an opportunity to perform in his hometown and promote his music career.

Brian is very excited to be part of an event of this magnitude and is looking forward to helping out his brother as well as The ALS Assocation.

Brian will be performing ALL of his new songs he recently recorded for his debut CD in addition to a variety of other tunes. So, GET YOUR TICKETS NOW because the price will go up as it gets closer to the performance date!!!!

Here are the essential details:

WHEN: Friday, January 30th, 7:00p
WHERE: Warren Baptist Church, Augusta GA
TICKETS: Family Christian Bookstore, Augusta GA or at the door until sold out

Brian Around LA

I'll add content to this lens as I can, so come back periodically to see what's new.

I'll also give you a glimpse of various celebs Brian comes into contact with as he goes about his daily routine. Take this person in the photo above with him, for example...she is one of the most talented people in the music industry. Know who she is???

It's Diane Warren, and is she amazing! Brian recognized her immediately when she came into the store where he works. She's touched your life at some point without you even realizing it because she's one of the most successful music writers this industry has ever known. She's written thousands of songs and makes millions every year in royalties.

She owns her own company - http://RealSongs.com so check out her site, browse through her music...oh, and tell her Brian said "hi." :-)

How to Promote Yourself as a Musician

(or DON'T wait to be discovered - create your own successful music career!)

When you're starting out in your music career, it's natural to think that you have to get signed by a major record label in order to make it in the music industry. In the past several years, though, the internet has turned this monopolistic strategy on its head.

Thanks to free (key word: FREE!) social networking and video-hosting websites, the internet has opened up other ways for musicians to get the exposure they need to create a substantial following.

So, if you're a musician who wants to learn more about how to promote yourself, take a look at the info below. There're a ton of resources available online and offline, but these are some that you'll definitely want to check out first.

There are several Squidoo lenses that are great references for information about the music business and promoting yourself as a musician.

www.squidoo.com/howtomyspace does what its title says - shows you how to set up a myspace page for those who haven't ventured there, yet.

All of the following lenses have some great info on promotion and/or music business on their sites that you'll definitely want to check out:

www.squidoo.com/tmoorer

www.squidoo.com/diymusician

www.squidoo.com/InternetExposureForComposersandMusicians

www.squidoo.com/musicbizsecrets

www.squidoo.com/indiemusicmarketing

One more resource - Bob Baker, an established expert in the field of music business and promotion, has a website with a goldmine of info you can access. His site is: www.bob-baker.com.

I'll continue to add to this list as I have time (I DO have a day job!). If you find any resources that you think are awesome, contact me and let me know, and I can add them to this lens for others to see.

Hey man,
I don't know you, but I got an e-mail from my uncle today talking about how you were on American Idol. Apparently he and my aunt are in your parents Sunday School class. I'm listening to your music on Myspace right now...it's good. Trust Him, and He'll give you the best (even if we think it isn't!). Good luck, and I'll be praying for you.
