Who is Brijit.com?
It was great while it lasted. Brijit.com was one of the coolest new applications around and a great venue for online writers but at the moment the concept has been temporarily shelved and may come back in another iteration with a different business model and compensation structure for writer's. If you're a writer craving an outlet receptive to paying for your writing, try Associated Content.
Brijit.com's Philosophy
"We wish deep down that we were the kind of people who could read the Economist AND the New Yorker cover-to-cover every week & watch the Sunday morning political shows" says Brijit.com "But we're not. Time is a scarce commodity." Brijit.com provides busy readers with summaries of what to read, watch or listen to now.

The New Brijit.com?
Brosowky's latest venture in content mashing. The one page web page solicits e-mails promising...Great Content. Only Shorter.
"Millions of people are fed up with their piled-up magazines, unwatched TiVos, and overstuffed RSS readers. We'll save you time and expand your mind by providing you with concise summaries of the world's best, most-trusted sources, at work and at home."
I'm a little confused after Brosowksy invested $$$ in Brijit why he would do something similar but then have to re-brand again except that Brijit was kind of an odd duck of a name whereas Summary Machine defines content aggregation somewhat better.
I wish Jeremy the best of luck in obtaining funding in this downward economy as the idea was brilliant in concept and he and his colleagues treated writers fairly well right to the end and he earns my respect in that regard.

Frontline - Storm Over Everest
Storm Over Everest - Frontline Abstract
Abstract written by Adrienne Jenkins and edited by Brijit.
- Brijit
- You feel the unrelenting, whipping wind of the South Col and relive every sleep-and-oxygen deprived physical challenge recounted by the surviving climbers and sherpas of the 1996 Mount Everest tragedy. Unlike Jon Krakauer's personal recollections in his book Into Thin Air, IMAX filmmaker Breashears never crosses the line between journalist and subject, and this documentary feels somewhat detached as a result. "Storm Over Everest" quietly emphasizes the perils of the ascent in permanent frostbite damage, from the blistering red nose of Beck Weathers to the limbless-ness of Taiwanese climber Makalu Gau. The footage is magnificent, and the story it depicts is simply harrowing.

Brijit.com Shuts Down, Did Not Get Funding
Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Here's what's on the home page.
You've reached this page because, at the moment, Brijit is out of money and can no longer afford to bring you the world in 100 words. We're working hard to find a way forward for our service and hope to relaunch in the not-too-distant future. Thanks to all our loyal readers and writers.
Brijit.com Belly Up
Cool Abstracting Application Absolved
As an online freelance writer, Brijit.com was a terrific venue to hone your craft in 100 words or less. I was wondering what was happening at the end of the day Wednesday when the number of articles left to abstract dwindled down to barely a handful and thought maybe the site was getting extremely popular with writers but alas Brijit.com is no longer in operation.
Unfortunately Brijit.com follows a similar fate as previous ventures by founder Jeremy Brosowsky, whose former company Business Forward Media is also now defunct. Earlier this week, I had pestered the team at Brijit for failing to post an abstract I had written back in April. Even with all that was going on, I appreciate that Jeremy took the time to personally e-mail me to say it was under review and then posted it shortly after. Little did I know all the other issues he had to worry about. I appreciate his professionalism to the end. I wish Brosowsky and his Brijit team all the best in hopefully resurrecting this concept should funding come through. The team and community of writers have built a terrific portfolio and I hope monetizing or adapting this application is within reach.
Brijit Writers:
The website reassures payment in full for all abstracts published through May 15 will be made next week.
What Happens to All That Content
As someone that has written a number of abstracts wtih Brijit.com I immediately thought, darn, I don't think I took the time to copy or archive any of the abstracts I wrote that I'm pretty proud of to date. Good news, you can still access Brijit and the nearly 16,000 abstracts, click here.
