What a great lens. I love cats (have two Birmans) but I wouldn't be keen to encounter any of the creatures you've been writing about!

This is so cool! I love cats so naturally am intrigued. Harold's info was interesting, too. I could vividly see the cat walking around... and I love the formatting on the lens, particularly the purple - color of royalty. ;- )

I am a retired police officer trained to royal protection standard, and as a very experienced police dog handler and trainer there is no way that I would confuse a big animal at close range. Mid 1980's I saw a puma at about 50 yards distance in reasonable to good, light conditions in a field next to Birch Service Station Manchester, the time was about 6pm and dusk would be about forty minutes away. It was the tradiitional light brown colour but unusual bcause the near side to me (its left).had white cheek pieces like a tiger, but it was definitely a puma and in 1st class condition, well fed with a good coat it was well muscled and moved perfectly at a medium gait, it cleared a four-five gate and disappeared into a large field where sheep were grazing but I saw nothing further. I had stopped on the shoulder of the motorway when I saw the animal coming towards me,, it showed no fear or caution but just maintained the steady lope all the time that it was within my sight. In order not to encourage the usual inaccurate remarks, I did not report the matter at the time, but just waited for any reported sighting that I could check, but there were none at all. Enquiries reveal that there was a puma kept in a cage at Windy Harbour Farm Edenfield about five miles away from Birch as the crow flies, this puma is believed to have escaped or been released to the wild about the time of the legislation regarding dangerous animals in captivity, As a result there have been many reports of big cats in the Rossendale Valley area, mainly near to the moors that connect to Birch, but my own enquiries suggest that they are mostly if not all, pure imagination or attempts to gain capital in one way or another. No reportings of any value has emerged from the time that I saw the puma.

I saw a bob cat once, here in the US midwest. They are one of the smaller cats, but they could certainly kill you. Wouldn't want to encounter one in the wild.

Would not want to run into these creatures! Don't know if I believe the missing girl story, but I guess it's possible to snatch one off a bike. Seems the cat would have to be very hungry and also very used to, and not afraid of, kids on bikes and the noises they make.
