There were many opinions validated and shattered after the Brock Lesnar versus Frank Mir fight at UFC 81. For those who don't know, former UFC Heavyweight champion and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, Frank Mir submitted collegiate wrestling champion and ex-professional wrestler Brock Lesnar with a kneebar late in the first round. The bout was explosive from the start with Lesnar taking Mir down with ease and raining punches and hammer fists whilst on top. Frank Mir's continuous submission attempts and survival tactics warded off a referee stoppage just long enough to catch Lesnar in the vicious leg lock. Mir was very impressive in victory, and Lesnar was impressive and humble in defeat. This is my take on the future of Brock Lesnar.

Let me start this off by stating that this fight is by no means the end of Brock Lesnar. Many smart and respected people in the MMA community are very high on Lesnar's ability and dedication. In addition to this, the UFC brass know that they have a marketing gem in Lesnar and that he could bring hordes of WWE fans over to the UFC.

That being said, Lesnar has to win to remain a big deal in mixed martial arts. Taking on Frank Mir was very admirable, but also very naive. Frank Mir and Minotauro Noguiera and maybe Gabriel Gonzaga are, in my opinion, the only three heavies in the UFC that can beat Lesnar. This statement based on the fact that Jiu Jitsu is the only thing that will be effective on Lesnar.

I doubt UFC will give Brock Lesnar a huge name opponent in his next fight because of how much he has to lose. Back to back losses will take a lot of steam out of his sails. Then again, UFC doesn't have many huge name heavyweights. The top of the 215 division right now is Noguiera, Sylvia, Herring, Kongo, Werdum, Arlovski and probably Mir now.

Brock is rumored to be on the card for UFC 85 in the UK. If Heath Herring loses to Cheick Kongo and Jake O'Brien loses to Andrei Arlovski, expect those two wrestlers as possible opponents for Lesnar. If not those two, perhaps a guy like Eddie Sanchez or maybe even Gabriel Gonzaga.

Regardless of who Lesnar fights in the future, expect him to continue to impress. Many strikers aren't going to be able to stop Brock's takedowns and all of the heavyweight grapplers are overmatched. 2008 is going to be an exciting year for Brock Lesnar and the UFC.

with Brock's speed, strength, wrestling, and hopefully soon BJJ abilities he will be the next heavyweight champ. He does need training though in BJJ.
