Interesting Information About Bronze Garden Sculptures

Garden decor accents and garden accessories like contemporary bronze sculptures, bronze garden statues, bronze garden sculptures, bronze garden statuary, and bronze landscape statues, have become popular decorations and accents for many gardeners. Is this a new phenomenon or is this a continuation of cultural themes that started many thousands of years ago?

Bronze Objects Found in Asia Minor That Are 5,000 Years Old

While an egocentric attitude might claim that bronze garden sculptures and statues are a recent discovery, the fact is that bronze objects have been found in Asia Minor that date from before 3000 BC.

Not only this, but several thousand Egyptian figurines are currently on display in museums throughout the world--and most of these figurines were made approximately 3500 years ago.

Bronze Sculptures and Skilled Artisans

Skilled artisans, who mostly use the lost wax method, are the ones responsible for making these lovely bronze garden statues, sculptures.  Indeed, most of the bronze landscape statues, contemporary bronze sculptures, bronze garden statuary, and bronze garden sculptures have been crafted with first-rate quality and are worthy of becoming treasured family heirlooms.

First Came Bronze Weapons, Then Bronze Art

All of the great civilizations of the old world created bronze art usually after first using bronze in the production of weapons.  It is noteworthy to mention that the Greeks were the first to make their figures life-size.  Whereas very few Greek bronze cast works still exist, however, significantly more Roman bronze statues and sculptures have survived.

The Bronze Age and the Manufacture of Weapons and Tools

The Bronze Age signifies the development in the course of human culture when the majority of weapons, tools, and ornaments were made of bronze. Chronologically, the Bronze Age actually had a broad time-line due to the fact that bronze came into use, and then was replaced by iron, at dissimilar times in the various parts of the world.

During the Bronze Age, bronze was mainly a mixture of two metals:  copper and tin.  Now, however, bronze is an alloy of copper along with other metals such as aluminum, manganese, and tin.  These other metals are frequently added to bronze to add to its corrosion resistance.

Bronze Sculptures in Gardens and Parks

Throughout history, bronze sculptures and statues have been commonly used as key components in the decorative and ornamental design for gardens and parks.

Since garden decorations and garden accessories such as bronze sculptures are usually included in parks and gardens for enjoyment and are catalysts for an atmosphere that is conducive for contemplation, relaxation, and pleasure, disquieting subjects are typically shunned.

When bronze sculptures are placed among the trees and shrubbery they can surprise and amuse the visitors.  Not only this, but when positioned in the open, bronze sculptures can provide a focal point for the landscape.

Bronze sculptures in gardens and in parks have usually had predictable structures and style: fountains, birdbaths, sundials, figurative representations, wells, decorative plaques and urns, and cisterns.

The Dimensions and Cost of Bronze Garden Sculptures

Garden ornaments and garden accents such as bronze garden sculptures, as well as bronze garden statuary, bronze landscape statues, and contemporary bronze sculptures, are quite expensive, as compared with most other garden decor accents.  Indeed, many, if not most of the bronze statuary and sculptures on the Internet cost more than $1,000 with some costing more than $26,000.00.

Not only are garden decor accents like bronze garden sculptures and statues costly but they are also large and weigh a lot.  For instance, on the Internet there are quite a few bronze garden sculptures, bronze garden statuary, bronze landscape statues, and contemporary bronze sculptures that weigh 200 pounds with some weighing as much as 1,200 pounds and as tall as 12 to 15 feet.
