Brooke Lorren's Lenses
Ranked #6,924 in Squidoo Community, #444,218 overall
I am putting my lenses together in order to make them more easily accessible. I am a homeschool mom and a writer for Epinions.com and Associated Content on the side. I am categorizing my writings a little more in order to make what I have written easier to access.

About Me
Why I'm Here and Why I Write
I am a homeschool mom with two kids. I think that it's important to be involved in your kids' lives in order to help them become the best people that they can be. I spend most of my day teaching, and taking my kids to activities. But it turns out that right now, teaching is not enough. My husband started going back to school a few years ago, when he realized that it was going to be difficult to ever make a decent living without getting a college degree. So he started out at community college, and now he is in his last few semesters at Arizona State University.
In order to get a degree from Arizona State University, there are some classes that he has to take that are only offered during the day. He had to quit his day job (so to speak) in order to get a job that could give him the flexibility to go to school. So he took a job as a writer. His major is in the writing field, and he would love to write screenplays some day. He already has one novel published.
Unfortunately, his job as a writer doesn't pay that much. In fact, we make about $10k below the poverty level. While listening to Dave Ramsey one day (I'm a big fan of him and his principals), he talked about how if you want to be rich, you have to do what rich people do. I asked what Dave Ramsey would say about our situation. He would tell us that we're not making enough. So I tried to think of something that I could do to make a little more money for our family.
My husband can't take another job. He's already a full-time student, and he has a regular job on top of that. About a year ago, he got an opportunity to start a new business with his old boss. It takes a while to start a business, and although he's working hard at that as well, he's still not getting paid.
So I started writing. I have been writing for Epinions since 2000, so I know that there is money to be made in writing for the web. I found Associated Content after that, and then I found Squidoo. So now I'm writing for a few different places. I'm hoping to increase my earnings, and would like to earn enough to take my kids on vacation this summer. Although writing, like any business, starts off fairly slowly, I hope to build something with it.
What's Doing Well
These are my top lenses.
Survivor
Other than news programs, there are three shows that I watch regularly throughout the year. Survivor, The Amazing Race, and I used to watch American Idol (although I think I'm dropping that one now that Paula's gone and Ellen is in). I keep up with Survivor, and provide weekly episode recaps. I started this with Tocantins, and am continuing the tradition with Survivor Nicaragua, which is coming out in the fall.
Glenn Beck
I started off with a lens featuring just Glenn Beck's show, but I later expanded it to include information about Obama's Radical advisors.
Glenn Beck has a popular television program and a radio show. His latest book, Common Sense
, is currently at Amazon sales rank 4, and Arguing with Idiots
, which was released September 22, is at Amazon sales rank 2!
I try to keep up with Glenn Beck and his latest news, and update the lenses regularly.

Inspiration from Amazon
Olympics in Vancouver
My first Olympic lenses were on Vancouver. After all, it's the next one. Then I started to realize how much there is to write about the Olympics. I could create a new lens on the Olympics every day for the rest of my life, and I'd never run out of topics! So I branched out. I'm also getting more specialized in what I'm writing about as far as Vancouver is concerned. I'm currently working on a figure skating lens, and then I'll move on to covering the other individual sports.
Other Olympics Lenses
My ultimate goal is to create a lens for every Olympics, from 1896 to 2016. For right now, I only have finished 2004 to 2014. 2016 hasn't been announced yet.
The Olympics on Ebay
Hank the Cowdog
Hank the Cowdog has been around for more than 20 years, but I had only heard of it recently, when I was asked to review the book for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. My daughter really enjoyed it, and I created a lens about it.The lens includes a book review, a review of the Hank "Tornado" game, and information about the characters in the world of Hank the Cowdog.
Travel Lenses
My kids and I had the chance to travel this summer, and I created some pages based on some of the places that we visited. I have also had the opportunity to visit several places.
Patriotic Quotes
The founding fathers, and many other patriots throughout the history of the United States, have had a lot to say about this country. I've compiled some of my favorite quotes from the Patriots and Founding Fathers. Our country is in a time of great difficulty, and it's more important than ever to know what this country stands for. Like many of my lenses, this is a work in progress, and I plan on adding more patriotic quotes as I have time (and find more gems).
Zazzle
Zazzle is a great way to make a little extra money. There are a lot of people out there making wonderful products.
History Lenses
One of my interests is in history, and I've put together several history lenses.
Belfair Washington
Featured Lens
Belfair, Washington has a lot of things to do, if you like the out-of-doors. It is also not very well known. Take a dip in the Hood Canal, have a barbecue at Twanoh State Park, or visit the wetlands at the Theler Center. This lens has information on visiting, or moving to, Belfair. I have included information on schools, parks, real estate, and eating.

Toys for Toddler Boys
Unsung Hero
I like Toys For Toddler Boys, although it's not doing very well in lensrank at this point. I'm still trying to figure out what works well around here. My little boy is a toddler, and I've included some toys that he likes and is interested in. I also designed this shirt:
