The Brother HL 1850 is cost effective and has made it easier for small and home offices to own a high quality laser printer. This brother printer is cheap but it is also very fast it's speed rivals many of those high end printers in the market. The printer has almost endless expandability which means that it can be adapted to the requirements of most offices. However we feel that the printer should have a larger paper capacity.
This printer is so cost effective that managers don't need to think twice before they replace their tired old printer. The workgroup features built into this printer is good enough reason to kick out your old printer for this new one. This printer works out of the box with no hassle which is a big plus. The printer is accompanied with a well illustrated quick setup guide that makes installing the printer a simple task. The printer can be connected to the computer either via its USB ports or the provided sans cable. On the front panel of the unit is a basic three color display which gives you clear read outs. It also has four buttons that allows for you to change the paper and perform other advanced operations.
The user guide that comes along with the unit on the CD Rom is in PDF format and includes everything you need to know about keeping your printer trouble free and running. Making your printer a member of the local network is as simple as connecting it to the built-in-Ethernet ports and adding an extra 16 MB of ram to the printer.
Now the HL's paper handling has its ups and its downs. One disappointment is the printer's paper capacity. The printer can just hold around 350 sheets of paper because it has one 250 sheet tray and one 100 sheet tray. For another two hundred bucks you can purchase another 250 sheet stray bringing your over all capacity to 600 sheets. However its still not enough as compared to the other printers that can hold over a thousand sheets of paper. The HL Toner Cartridges lasts exceptionally long in this printer.
One of the good things about this printer is the built in duplexer which is very fast and requires no intervention. The drivers that you install give you an option of either rotating the paper to the left or to the bottom edge. The preset settings will allow you to pick and adjust your laser printer for settings such as paper size and print quality.
You also get a reset button on each tab with means if you don't like the changes you made you can reset it to its defaults. However there is a lack of a universal reset button which in my opinion should be there. This printer is pretty fast at 19pps.
