The First Step to Building an eBook Empire Is Choosing Your Niche 

Parents? Golfers? Gamblers? Men or Women?

In my latest eBook, Building an eBook Empire, I start out by helping my readers learn how to narrow down their niche and develop ideas for their first and subsequent information products.

Picking the right niche can mean the difference between doing okay and seeing lots of sales on a regular basis.

So how do you choose a good niche that will make money? I'm sorry to tell you I somewhat disagree with the notion of following your passions. Passion doesn't always equal profitability!

You may not want to tacke a subject you dread, like stock markets, but you do need to choose something a high number of consumers will want information on - and be willing to pay for it.

The best place to start to find your niche is to think of a problem. Here's an example - women who want to work, but raise their family.

Maybe you envision your consumer as the woman in this picture - she's trying to go home to her husband and kids, but is chained to the business world. How can you help her break out of it?

Your first info product in your eBook Empire could be "balancing work and home life." Since my entire eBook discusses building an empire out of a single topic, you'll want to think of follow-up ideas, such as:

1.) A Mommy's Guide to Making Money on the 'Net

2.) Organizing Your Home Office Space

3.) Part-Time Profits for Busy Moms

...or, go into detail about a specific more narrow topic, such as:

4.) Are You a Mom With a Knack for Writing? (making money ghostwriting online)

5.) Mommy Blogging for Big Bucks (specific blog tactics)...

and so on.

The Second Step to Building an eBook Empire Is Conducting Keyword Research 

Top 100? Top 100? Try 10,000 and Up!

A guru doesn't shy away from conducting keyword research. Most marketers make the mistake of having about 10-20 prime keywords.

They never crush the competition because they haven't dug down deep enough to funnel the most targeted visitors to their domain.

Think about it - would you rather have someone come to your site looking on google under "Baby Stroller?" Or would it be better to have someone type in "Dreamer Design - Rebound Jogger Lite?"

The second searcher knows what she wants - and she's ready to buy after a little bit of information. The first person has no clue and will probably click in and out of dozens of sites before making a buying decision.

Choice #2 is a long tail keyword phrase. So passing those by is a BIG mistake!
