Quaint Neighborhood Recalls an Ageless Sarasota

Romantic restuarants, art and antique galleries as well as eccentric shops meld to create an especially interesting neighborhood in the southern part of the City of Sarasota, Florida. Homes and businesses share the Burns Court area, a mixed-use neighborhood where people walk to shops and cafes greeting each other as they stroll.

There are a number of 1920s residences designed by Owen Burns and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Remarkably there are buildings from the 1950s that remain in place and in use. All in all, you see a rather accurate snapshot of Sarasota history as you walkabout.

Citrus Cafe | Sarasota Restaurant Reviews | Dining Guide
A "European-like" feel in the heart of Sarasota's historical district. Truly at the historical intersecting points of Burns Court/Herald Square and Laurel Park sits the charming Citrus Cafe. With its outdoor tables and umbrellas, the brick patio, the fountain, and the historical buildings, one cannot help but feel a little bit of Europe.
Galileo Ristorante | Sarasota Restaurant Reviews | Dining Guide
Something Old%u2026 is Something New, again! Built in 1926 by Owen Burns and Registered with the National Registry of Historic buildings, this former residence and restaurant (Uva Rara) at 443 Burns Court, serves as the new locale for Galileo Ristorante. Formerly located on Stickney Point Road, this seven year old establishment moved to the Burns Court location this summer.
Panini Press | Sarasota Restaurant Reviews | Dining Guide
Benvenuto...to the new spot for coffee, lunch and dinner! A new comer to downtown and the Burns Court area arrived late this summer. Panini Press, occupying the former premises of the Bungalow (on the corner of Ringling and South Pineapple) has transformed this former on again/off again non-descript location into a brightly lit open aired breakfast and lunch spot. A well done transformation.

Sarasota's distinction today as a vibrant capital of culture springs from the calculated ambition of a handful of early residents -- celebrities who spearheaded the city's destiny. Their vision and resources transformed a quaint fishing village on the Gulf coast of Florida into a glamorous resort town and international art center.
