Burwell Nebraska
Ranked #9,960 in Travel & Places, #254,669 overall
Welcome to Burwell, Nebraska
Burwell, Nebraska is my hometown. I lived there for 23 years and return to visit my family from time to time. Now, I am sure a lot of you are thinking Nebraska... corn... boring. Well, there is corn, but there is a whole lot more, too! Burwell is home to a great outdoor rodeo. The North Loup river offers scenery and lots of opportunities for recreation. The Calamus Dam is just outside town. The park is very nice (pictured in this photo). Burwell is a pretty great place.
About Burwell, Nebraska
My Home Town
Burwell is located in central Nebraska. It is the Garfield County seat, which isn't saying much because there isn't a ton of competition for the honor. The population has diminished slightly.. when I grew up the sign going into town read Population 1380. I am thinking that number is 1130 now. That's still pretty good-sized, by Nebraska standards, and Burwell has everything you need as far as shopping and services. The people are honest, hard-working, and friendly. The scenery is beautiful.

The best restaurants in town
I'm working off memory here, so don't be shy about helping me out. The Sandstone Grill rocks! The food is comparable to the best you'll find anywhere. When in doubt, order steak (no-brainer in Nebraska), but honestly, everything I've tried there has been excellent. Northside Tavern has really good food, also. I believe the diner just off the square is presently called Barb's... check out the lunch specials and have some pie.

Not to be missed...
Don't miss the rodeo, the last week in July. Don't miss tubing down the North Loup in the summer. Don't miss seeing sunrise over the Sandhills. Don't miss the Calamus Dam.

Yes, there is corn...
