Business Networking Questions

Ranked #11,376 in Business & Work, #271,604 overall

Are you a student of business networking? A seasoned networking professional? Or both?

Have you ever wanted to spend an hour with a giant of the business networking world, to listen to them tell stories of how they got started, the mistakes they made along the way, and where their ideas came from? Sure, we can read the biographies, but wouldn't it be the opportunity of a lifetime to sit across the table from someone like Dale Carnegie and be able to ask him anything!  Sure, he might choose not to answer, but it would be fun. And I am sure, informative.

What about being able to talk to them in their formative years, before they became the person who wrote the books or made business networking history? Might that shed a different light on our own potential? Or the potential of others we know?

What if you could personally interview 50 top networking professionals?

What insights might you gain? Would it change the way you network?

This is a journey that I have started on myself. A quest to interview 50 top attraction marketing and networking professionals and see what collective and unique insights might be found. I am currently researching and compiling a book in the 50 Interviews series and posting some of the gems acquired from the interviews on my blog.

I have always enjoyed meeting new people, but interactions between people work differently when business is involved. Some people interact effectively in social or networking situations where all parties enjoy the experience. Other people get weird or boring when they start to talk about business.

What separates a professional networker from a weird or boring one? Why are some networkers attractive to other people whereas other networkers are seen as an irritation? How do you become one rather than the other?

These are some of the questions I am seeking answers to.
Who knows, If you post a question, you might even get some of your fantasy business networking questions answered in the process.

Fantasy Private Business Lunch Poll

If you could talk to any business networking professional from any time (and I guess that must include politicians) who would it be?

I have never actually played fantasy football, but I am curious by nature, and have wondered what these people are really like. Why have they been so influential? Did/Do they ever have bad days and say things they wish they hadn't? What does a bad day look like for them? What did they do about it?

Books and memoirs are one thing. They have sat down and written them carefully - or had them ghost written, weighed each word, been proofread, analyzed and edited.

I suspect an hour of conversation would reveal a unique perspective.

Who would you choose for a "Fantasy private business lunch" companion?

Fantasy Business Networking Lunch List

Who would you like to invite to your fantasy business networking lunch?

Business Networking groups like BNI, LeTip, iTakeTheLead and others meet around the globe, often over lunch, to share business ideas and referrals. Many well known businessmen and entrepreneurs have participated in "Mastermind groups" that meet on a regular basis. If you could invite anyone, who would you like to see at your "Fantasy Business Lunch?"

I like your lens. I also like to network but I'm not as skilled as you. I will usually lie to someone I just met at a networking function to get the conversation rolling (i.e. I went to the Kentucky Derby this year of I own a small textile company) Is this a good idea or not? I don't want people to get bored with me early which is why I lie. Thanks again, good stuff
