Time. It may be fashionable to come in late in some countries. But for places like Japan, you are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Regardless of culture, businessmen ought to respect the time of their counterparts.

Business Wear. You may not be in your office, but it's not the time for you to wear casual clothes unless an occasion calls for it. Business travel often needs a more formal and professional way of introducing yourself and representing your company.

Handshake. A common gesture when you are introduced to someone is to shake his hand. Businessmen put a lot of emphasis with the grip and the way they deliver a handshake. But Germans consider it disrespectful to shake someone's hand while your other hand is inside your pocket.
Table Manners. When a colleague pays you a courtesy meal when visiting their town, businessmen are still expected to professional. It may be acceptable to drink a little to signify unwinding outside office hours. But never drink too much nor take advantage of their kindness. But Italians would love for you to get a second serving when offered.

Body Language. Determining the right body language of a certain culture can be tricky for businessmen. While some gestures are common in your homeland, there's a possibility that it is considered offensive in another culture. Pointing your index finger at somebody or talking while your hands are in your pocket is rude when you're in Belgium.

Do your Homework. Get to know a few facts about your destination. Knowing how to properly convey your message such as acts of respect and appreciation can go a long way. It is vital to represent your company in your best behavior.
