Holidaying in Busselton
Busselton, Western Australia
Busselton is a wonderful tourist destination only 2.5 hrs South of Perth, located in the cape to cape region. An idyllic gettaway where you can stay at exclusive resorts or camp on a budget and still get to enjoy all the beauty and tranquility of this small slice of paradise. A local once said to me, "this is a little piece of heaven that fell off and God looked down, smiled and said, "lets let them have a taste". And thats exactly what its like.
Whether its peace and tranquility or loads of fun and activity, Busselton in WA has it all, from the calm water of Geographe Bay that is perfect for swimming, fishing or boating, to rugged cliffs of the famous surfing coast of Yallingup and the Margaret River region, ancient caves, rambling pastures, world class picturesque vineyards, and magnificent tall timbers in the forest regions.
One of the most famous icons associated with Busselton is its jetty. Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty (pier) in the southern hemisphere, stretching almost 2 km out to sea. This jetty is currently undergoing refurbishment work which will be completed by Dec 2010.
When restoration is complete you will be able to ride a train out along the jetty to the Underwater Observatory at its end, this observatory is becoming one of Australia's premier eco-tourism attractions. You will also be able to enjoy a trip back in time if you choose to walk the jetty as the new structure and artworks along the jetty tell its history and the story of its importance to the people of Busselton. Until this time the first 200m of the jetty is still open as is the interperative centre and museum. So you can still come and enjoy unique experiences situated in Western Australia's favourite playground! Jetty Fiesta for official reopening 5th Feb 2011.

It is known as the Ludlow Tall Tuart Forest: what makes this ecosystem particularly special is that tuart trees grow taller then anywhere else in the state. The Ludlow Tuart Forest is the only remaining Tall Tuart Forest in the world and is therefore one of the rarest ecosystems left on earth.
The area is habitat for a number of rare and endangered and vulnerable species including the endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoo, the Chuditch, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Western Ring-tailed Possum, Brush Wallaby and contains 1739 Tuart trees and their associated eco-systems.

- Busselton is another place in Australia that I would highly recommend to visit and this lens does a great job at teasing and showing a few of the things that make this such a unique place, even in Australia. The food is great, but the views and opportunities to see the sites are worth visiting for alone.

Locals usually know the best places for great deals, good service & good food, so tourists often want to know where the locals go. This is a list of some of them.
- Barefoot Books
- This is a great bookshop down Fig Tree Lane. It has friendly staff and a great range. You can even sit as you browse a book & there's a place for the kids to play as well as a great selection of childrens books. A great place to get something to resad as you relax.
- Olde Chaple Cafe
- This is a great place for a coffee or lunch. Reasonable prices & great food. It is also a mini art gallery with works available for sale. Check out the mounted prints that are light, ready for you to take home & then get framed or give as a gift.
- The Nard as it's know by the locals
- Great for an evening meal or a drink with friends.
