NBS and Manufacturer Standards for Button Sizes

This quick reference guide reviews the NBS Sizes and commonly used manufacturers sizes for vintage and collectible buttons.

NBS Button Sizes

The National Button Society has set official button size standards for collectible buttons. Here they are for your quick reference.

Large: 1-1/4 inch and over
Medium: 1/4 inch to 1-1/4 inch
Small: 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch
Diminutive: Up to 1/8 inch

Manufacturer Standards 

Standard sizes used by manufacturers are as follows:

1/4 inch 7 mm
3/8 inch 9 mm
1/2 inch 13 mm
5/8 inch 16 mm
3/4 inch 19 mm
7/8 inch 22 mm
1-1/8 inch 28 mm and up
