What Kind of Big Screen TV Should You Buy?

You probably know that there are different types of big screen TVs to buy. But, do you know the difference between these types? Read here for some basic information and then decide which type of TV is best for you.

Rear-Projection vs. Flat-Panel

There are two main types of high definition television sets: rear-projection and flat-panel. But what is the difference between these two types?

The most obvious feature of flat-panel TVs is that they are...flat (gasp!). These take up very little space and you can even hang them on your wall! They have incredible picture quality and are very popular. However, if you intend to hang it on your wall you need to make sure there is adequate support for it. If you decide on a flat TV, your next decision is between a Plamsa screen or an LCD screen.

Rear-projection TVs are basically the thicker models. They are about 12" or so thicker, so you need to have it set up properly and won't be able to hang it on the wall. However, these also have incredible picture quality, and these models are usually cheaper. If you are not interested in a slim TV, this is the perfect choice because you can get just as much quality and usually save some money.

-If you are interested in a TV that is around 40" or smaller, then a flat-panel TV is the best choice for you.

-If you are looking for a TV that is over 40", then a rear-projection TV is the best choice.

-If you want a screen that is over 60", then you really need to get a rear-projection HDTV TV.

Plasma vs. LCD

If you decide on a flat-panel set, you need to choose between a Plasma screen or an LCD screen.

LCD screens used to be viewed as the best for smaller TVs while Plasma was recommended for larger sets. In recent years this has changed though and LCD screens have advanced a lot and are great for any size TV set. Plasma screens have advanced too and no longer have issues like screen burn-in.

However, if you are interested in the best clarity and resolution available, it is highly recommended to get an LCD big screen TV.
