Why The Green Movement?
Ranked #355,963 in Healthy Living, #3,584,971 overall
Have you sent your hard earned dollars to some organization that offers Carbon Footprint Offsets? Have you asked them to plant a tree so that you may continue to operate in the lifestyle that is becoming to you?
Carbon Footprint Offsets are another way for someone to make money off of others by simply suggesting that what you pay them allows you to rid yourself of the guilt associated with your alleged contribution to Global Warming.
Let's consider a Computer Model that extrapolates the data obtained from your surroundings and your lifestyle. Most theorists, I shall refrain from the term scientists, use such subjects as Household Power/Heating Needs, Automotive Use (fossil fuels), Food and how it is obtained, Alternative Transportation Use and even some suggest Recreational Activities (riding a bicycle versus riding a 4 wheel off-road vehicle) should be included.
Let's run the numbers! To Offset a Carbon Footprint of a standard household, which includes the above mentioned items in our Computer Model, one may have to pay out up to $1000 annually. This $1000, after operating expenses (which no For Profit organization is willing to release), purchases seedlings, plus manpower and maintenance, of trees to be planted in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya!
I cannot, with the greatest of scientific reasoning, through hours of calculations, understand how this works, how all the carbon emissions end up in Kenya. The logic is obvious. It's not the removal of carbon from the air, but profits by organizations that have jumped aboard the Green Movement, that feed upon those that would really like to do something but are not well informed.
Plant a tree in Kenya and in a few years it will be cut down and used for firewood by local tribes for heating and cooking. Yes, even Christian Children's Fund-Kenya has launched a tree-planting program; according to CCF-Kenya National Director Ogada Kojwang, the goal is to have one million trees planted within the first year. This project is to counter the widespread cutting of trees, a leading cause of environmental degradation. The practice is a major contributor to poverty, drought and famine in the region.
But the CCF-Kenya Project isn't to counter CO2 emissions!
Plant a tree in your neighborhood where the benefit to Carbon Offset will be the greatest.

WHEN THE TRUTH IS TOLD
Green is Good?
Not often will one find the truth, even if it has to go against a standard set by those that talk the loudest! It's not talk, but facts about what one says.
Now, with the Green Movement in full force, it goes "against the grain" to do anything but submit to the rationale that Green is Good. But what makes Green, Green?
A new building is going up downtown...advertised as a Green Building. Unless there are no wood products being used, which requires the cutting down of our National Forests, or any metal being used in the construction as this would require the use of heavy machinery to destroy sections of our planet in the strip-mining process to extract the ore and the processing of the ore into metal ingots. Unless this building has no electrical wiring, which uses some form of plastic insulation, where plastic is a bi-product of crude oil. Even the carpeting will be synthetic! Concrete? More strip-mining for the materials!
Green Building? Will there be a parking garage? Just the idea of "driving" to a Green Building is counter to the use of the term Green!
Are you following me here...?
Let's control our ego's and make sense of our rhetoric! Green is a color, not a cause!
