Who can become CDL certified?

Do you have what it takes to become a CDL certified trucker? Truck driving is a great job for those who love big rigs and open roads...read on to see what you need to qualify for CDL training and a brand new career!

Generally accepted requirements to become a trucker

  • You need to be an adult (i.e. over the age of 18) for in-state driving and over 21 if you would like to obtain interstate job opportunities.
  • You must have a valid drivers license when you are ready to enroll in CDL training.
  • Those who are apllying must pass a physical and drug screening administered by the Department of Transportation.
  • You must be drug free and agree to drug testing.
  • You must be sufficiently familiar with the English language. This implies being able to read and communicate. Situations might call for the ability to read signs, interact with English-speaking citizens, fill out reports, etc.

You meet the requirements...now what?

It is important to find a reputable CDL training agency that will help you secure a good job. In my experience with the trucking industry, there are some good ones, and sadly, some bad ones. One of the stand-out industry leaders however is Truckers Dispatch. They have a great track record for placing applicants in CDL training and then matching them with an employer withing their extensive network. By filling out one CDL training application Truckers Dispatch will place you with training and employers that match your needs and desires.
