I am impressed that you built a Harp. That is quite an accomplishment. I will have to hope I am issued one after I pass, assuming I pass in the proper direction. Fascinating Lens.

Just remember, the Harp music is up stairs, the thing that Charlie Daniels plays is down in Georgia, so I hear! Thanks for visiting, and make sure Peter knows your full name.

My friend plays the harp, it's always something I would have loved to have learned as a child. This and the cello.

Thanks for visiting. I have to include some pics of my daughter playing. I love the soothing of the stings. Never to late! If there's life there's hope!

I have often found myself drawn towards lutherie. I have a pantograph inlay machine and I plan on using it to inlay my yahama acoustic guitar. I would like to build a harp or a violin/cello
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER May 6, 2012 @ 11:38 pm | delete
Awesome! I have a Yahama classical guitar I bought in Greece about 13 years ago that will need some luthiery love soon! Go for it, if at first you do not suceed do like COUNTRYLUTHIER and try again!

"high five" to you, sir. There is a lady who plays harp at Christmas time in church. It's always so pretty and adds so much to the service. How awesome to not only build but also make music with it. I guess that's the mark of a great musician and instrument maker.

When my oldest son was born prematurely, I bought a tape (that was 19 years ago so cd's werent really around much then) that was the most beautiful harp music I had ever heard. I put a tape player by his incubator and played it as much as possible. You see, harp music has a profound positive effect on premature infants, it helps their breathing and heart rates stabilize and improves physiological and behavioral parameters of stable preterm
infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. I think harp music is beautiful, your lens was very interesting! Thank you for providing such a wonderful read!
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Apr 15, 2012 @ 9:47 pm | delete
That is such an awesome story. I do thank you for sharing and personally believe the harp is a very powerful instrument when it comes to soothing tones. I've always thought that the harp is an exotic instrument - not something a lot of people know how to play, so those who do are admired. If you make harps, that's even more admirable!
  • prosperity66 Oct 21, 2011 @ 6:08 am | delete
I'd love to have a harp... However, with only two left hands how could I build one myself? I'm not skilled at all. Any way, I enjoyed the visit!

BTW. I'd like to know which of the listed kings played the harp so well, lol.

Ravi, if you wish too there are kits where you get every thing and just assemble the parts. I actually bought rough lumber and literally sliced it into the planks I used. Not everyone finds that easy to do. A good specialty lumber store (not the Depot guys) can do what is called resawing the lumber for a fee. YOur experience will determine a lot of how difficult it is.
