Why You Should Cage Your Tomatoes?
It has been shown that caging tomatoes produces a bigger, juicer tomato and due to air circulation, ripens quicker. Tomato plants by nature are heavy due to the weight of the tomatoes. By caging the plants you are keeping the plant growing upright which keeps the plant healthy and the tomatoes off the ground so you will not have rotting tomatoes on the ground.
How To Cage Your Tomato Plants
There are different ways to stake your tomato plants, including stakes, trellises and stringing.
The most popular way to stake your tomatoes is to use a tomato cage. There are now many functional tomato cages, my favorite is the folding cage. You can easily fold and store during the winter months. Tomato cages are a functional and attractive way to provide support to your tomato plants.
Space out the tomato plants by at least 4 inches
Place cages in ground securely and place over plants when they are small
As plants grow, make sure stems and new growth are secured by the spaces in the cage

- We used really flimsy cages this year and once our tomato plants hit 5 foot, they fell over! I'll definitely be looking into some of these stronger cages next year. Great lens.
