About Canyon Lake

Canyon Lake was developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers for flood protection and water conservation. Construction of the man-made lake began in 1958 and ended in 1964. Canyon Lake was created by damming up the Guadalupe River. Canyon Lake reached peak water conservation level in 1968. It protects 250 square miles of land from flooding.

The lake has eight public parks that are maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. There are camping, fishing, boating, picnic, and swimming facilities.

Man-made lakes have their fans and their sometimes ardent foes, but once one exists, it can eventually be hard to imagine the area without it. Like with Lake Powell here in Arizona. Anyhow, thanks for introducing me to Canyon Lake. I'm not all that familiar with Texas at all, so I'd never heard of it.

Great, great lens! I've lensrolled you on a few of my Texas related lenses. I've never heard of Canyon Lake and I've lived in Texas my whole life and grew up on a boat. Thanks for sharing the info.
