In the USA Sonora Dodd of Washington was the first person to offiially celebrate Father's Day on June 19th 1910, after listening to a mother's day sermon at her local church. It is celebrated in many countries throughout the world and the official date varies from country to country.

Halloween

The word Hallowe'en comes from the phrase All Hallows Eve and and is also known as the Christian holy day of All Saints Day. It is also has its roots in the pagan celtic festival of Samhain. Mostly a secular celebration, images often associated with it are: witches, black cats, haunted houses, ghosts and ghoules of all shapes and sizes. Hallowe'en activities include "trick or treat", bonfires, fancy dress parties, ghost tours and watching horror movies.Traditions and words vary from country to country, for example, in Scotland children would be said to go "guising" and "dooking for apples".

Christmas Cards

The very first commercial Christmas card was commissioned by Sir Henry Cole, a 19th century British civil servant and innovator. It was issued in 1843 and was illustrated by John Calcott Horsley. The illustration featured a family drinking wine together wth a small child, causing controversy at the time.

Popular Christmas themes include religious images such as nativity scenes, the three wise men and Christian symbols such as the star of bethlehem, white doves and angels.
