2012 Theme Celebrates "King of Sport"
Day and night carnival parades of about 20 floats celebrating the "King of the Mediterranean" story with the help of more than 1,000 musicians and dancers from around the world. The illuminated evening parades light up the center of the city of Nice on the French Riviera or Cote d'Azure.
The Flower Parades also boast about 20 floats, a fabulous show of the Rivera flowers. Most of the flowers in the parade grow in the area around Nice. This feature of Carnaval de Nice dates back to the 1800s when wealthy winter visitors riding in decorated carriages exchanged bouquets.
The two-week festival attracts more than 1.2 million people, making the event the largest winter party on the French Riviera.

The city of Nice follows a festive sequence that takes spectators from daytime and nighttime carnival parades of floats, to the parades of the flowers, to rock concerts, to the fires of artifice.

- Sure, I'd love to see Mardi Gras in Nice, but for now I'll have to settle for Carnaval in Florianópolis on the Island of Santa Catarina off the southern coast of Brazil. I think it's going to be fantastic! I've just put up a lens about it. Thanks for yours!
