Persian Carpets of Mashhad

Mashhad Carpets are made in and around the Holy City of Mashhad one of the oldest weaving centers of Iran. Mashhad is the main city of Khorasan and has been since gengis Kan destroyed Rey in the 13th century. Carpets in Mashhad traditionally have a darker more bluish red from the use of the dye Lac. Lac is a natural insect dye that was imported from India.
