Carrie Prejean - Miss California 2009: Facts, Photos, Videos & More!

Carrie Prejean, Miss California 2009, was runner up in the 2009 Miss USA pageant. Prejean rose to prominence when she answered a politically-charged opinion pageant question by doing the unthinkable - giving her honest opinion.

During the question and answer portion of the Miss USA pageant, Prejean expressed her belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, touching off a firestorm of widely publicized criticism from pageant judge and nationally known celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. In subsequent appearances, Prejean has stood fast in her morals and Biblical truths, refusing to compromise her faith.

On May 5, 2009 Carrie Prejean was again in the center of controversy when racy photos of her as a teen showed up on the web. On May 12 Donald Trump said she would retain the crown and title, but on June 10, 2009, Carrie Prejean was removed as Miss California. In August of 2009, her attorney announced Prejean was filing a lawsuit against the Miss California organization.

In this lens, you will learn more about Miss California, Carrie Prejean, her career, controversy, and her testimony. You will also find some fun facts and trivia as well as photos of Miss California Carrie Prejean.

Intolerance at the Miss USA Pageant

During Sunday night's competition, Perez Hilton asked Carrie Prejean if she felt all states should move toward allowing same-sex marriage following the examples of states like Vermont as well as California, Prejean's home state.

Miss California said, "I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other ... same sex marriage or opposite marriage," then added, "I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman ... that's how I was raised."

Carrie Prejean was ridiculed following the Miss USA Pageant for answering a politically-charged opinion question with her honest opinion. Perez Hilton called her numerous unsavory terms, and several talk-show hosts and other celebrities mocked Miss California for her honest reply as well as for saying "opposite marriage" instead of "opposite-sex marriage."

Donald Trump disagreed with Perez Hilton's assertion that it was the worst answer in the history of the Miss USA pageant saying, "Miss California has done a wonderful job, that was her belief ... It wasn't a bad answer, that was simply her belief." Trump added that Prejean's question was "a bit unlucky," stating that no matter how she answered the question "she was going to get killed."

Carrie Prejean on Marriage

"It's not about me, it's about the future of marriage. But I'm honored to do my part."

On-line viewerswere able to watch a live 36 minute conversation between Carrie Prejean and Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor of the Rock Church. Prejean appeared at the Rock Church during all five services on Sunday April 26th. Prejean is a member of the Rock Church family and actively serves in church outreach ministries. The 10:00am and 12:00pm (pst) services were streamed live, viewable at www.therocksandiego.org. The Rock's Senior Pastor, Miles McPherson, spent time with Prejean in the critical hours following the pageant. They shared the story behind the controversy that we haven't heard.

A new television ad featuring footage of Carrie Prejean explaining her support for marriage between a man and a woman, and then being verbally attacked by gay marriage activists was launched today by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). The ad - a continuation of NOM's campaign in defense of marriage - also features footage of a gay marriage activist from the Human Rights Campaign referring to supporters of marriage as "outright bigots."

"Carrie only said what the majority of Americans believe: marriage means a man and a woman," said Maggie Gallagher, president of NOM. "Her example resonates, especially to many young Americans, because she chose to stand for truth rather than surrender her core values." Gallagher added, "The behavior of Carrie's critics raises a question in a lot of folks' minds: if this is how they treat good people who disagree with them now, what will they do once they have the power of the law on their side?"

Carrie Prejean's Statement at the National Organization for Marriage launch of "No Offense" April 30, 2009

Thank-you. It's been a very strange week for me, as you can imagine. This was not exactly what I planned, or asked for or wanted. But nonetheless I am grateful. I'm grateful for all the prayers and well- wishes I've received from all different kinds Americans who believe as I do that America is a place where people should stand up for our values, for what we think is right.

I'm grateful for the outpouring of support from the great majority of Americans who know in our hearts that Americans should treat each other with respect even when we disagree--especially when we disagree about important moral issues like marriage.

You probably know by now. I believe very strongly that marriage IS the union of a husband and wife. What's more I believe with millions of other Americans: This vision of marriage is not hateful or discriminatory--it's good.

Marriage is good. There IS something special about unions of husband and wives. Unless we bring men and women together, children will not have mothers and fathers. I do not want to raise my own children in a world where this traditional view of marriage is considered hateful or discriminatory, especially not by my own government.

I am not affiliated with any organization; I'm speaking my own views. But I do appreciate the many people who stand in the front lines to fight for marriage, including the National Organization for Marriage. That's why I agreed to appear today to support NOM's important message: Respect marriage. And the people who support it.

It's not about me, it's about the future of marriage. But I'm honored to do my part. Thank-you.

Carrie Prejean at the 2009 Dove Awards

Carrie Prejean was one of the celebrities on hand at the 2009 Dove Awards in Nashville, Tennessee on April 23, 2009. I had the opportunity to meet Carrie and to speak with her. I found Carrie Prejean to be gracious, humble and approachable.

She told me what a nice reception she received at the Dove Awards and then we spoke briefly about her Q&A with Perez Hilton at the Miss USA Pageant.

Carrie Prejean told me she was nervous about answering the question and that she had not wanted to offend anyone. She said she misspoke and stumbled over the phrase "Opposite-sex marriage" but that she felt like she had "finished strong" and was not unhappy with her answer overall.

Miss California Carrie Prejean and the "Nude Photos Scandal"

Reportedly "topless" and "nude" photos of Carrie Prejean hit the web May 5

Miss California Carrie Prejean has come under more fire for provocative and revealing photographs posted on the web. The most recent photographs show Carrie Prejean in a vest which unfortunately gaped open when the wind blew or she shifted into the wrong position. This allowed an unscrupulous photographer to capitalize on some photos which reveal much more than Prejean intended, but in my opinion, she should have known better than to pose in such scanty clothing.

The earlier set of photos show the then teenage Carrie Prejean topless but covered by her arms, wearing pink panties. These photos were also billed as "nude photos" and "topless photos," but as stated, her top was fairly modestly covered by Prejean's arms, and she was wearing panties, so they were neither nude nor completely topless.

Carrie Prejean issued the following statement about the controversy:

"I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be. But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others' opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks."

Attacks Against Carrie Prejean Continue

While the Left complains about all the media attention Miss California Carrie Prejean has been getting since the Miss USA Pageant, they continue to try to drag her name through the mud -- in the media. Anytime anyone comes forward to say something negative about Carrie Prejean or her family -- whether verified or not - media puppets like Mario Lopez, the new "King of Yellow Journalism," can be counted on to announce it publicly on television.

Is the Left really so intolerant and scared of a 22-year-old Christian beauty-pageant contestant that they are willing to gleefully and maliciously attack her and her parents over and over, and report on every rumor about her family like it is "real" news, and then criticize her for the media attention? We can clearly see where the intolerance, hate-speech, and "phobia" lie in this situation... and it's NOT with Carrie Prejean.

What Do You Think?

Do you think Miss California Carrie Prejean should have possibly lost the Miss USA crown because she answered a highly-charged, controversial opinion question honestly?

Please only provide polite responses.

Should Miss California have been penalized for give an honest response to an opinion question?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

No

papawu says:

Although I don't think she should be penalized for having an opinion. It doesn't matter that she is probably the next VP nominee for the Republican Party either.lol. I'm sorry, I just think this stuff is so simple and superfluous.I don't even understand why she got so much pres coverage when she isnt even the winner of the contest!

SimeyC says:

No sh should not have been penalized. - surely we want representatives of the US, be they Politicians, beauty pageant winners, sports personalities or movies stars to be honest.

BevsPaper says:

I agree that she should not have been asked the question to begin with. And no she should not have been penalized for being honest about her opinion. It is an opinion...there is no right or wrong with an opinion. There can be disagreement with someone's opinion, there can be an opposing opinion but there can't be a penalty for one's opinion.

KimGiancaterino says:

She should not have been penalized, but I feel the question should never have been asked in the first place. Unfortunately, gay marriage is one of many lose-lose topics, and Miss USA isn't being chosen to lead a nation. It's a beauty contest.

ReemaSharma1 says:

No she should not be.

Yes

rdntsnflr says:

While I am opposed to such contests as I feel the provocotive nature of the swimsuits opposes the biblical concepts of modesty and not causing your 'brother' to fall, I feel that she should not have been penalized for the truth. What if she lied? Would that have gained her more respect? It is JUST a superficial beauty contest ther are FAR more important matters to focus on.
