Cartoon Drawings of Animals
In this cartoon drawing tutorial I thought I would show some cool cartoon drawings, specifically cartoon drawings of animals, and explain briefly how I approach these drawings.
Cartoon Drawings of Animals - Elephants
In general, as with all my drawings, I try and build each character or animal using the simplest of shapes and objects. In the case of people and animals this is almost always simple circles and ovals.
The first cartoon below shows just how simple it is to create cartoon drawings of animals. The elephant below is constructed from 2 large circles, one for the head and one for the main body. The trick is again built from small circles, with details such as legs ears and eyes added at the end.

Cartoon Drawings of Animals - Horses
The next cartoon below shows how again using circles we can create a cartoon of a horses head, something which is often seen as quite complex. But as explained above, if you break everything down into simple shapes it becomes very easy. In this case onoly two circles are required, one for the nose and one for the head.
Next we have a more complete horse cartoon, which shows the way I have built this cartoon drawing up from the same simple circles into a virtually complete drawing, just requiring final ink lines over the initial pencil strokes. As you can see the horses head was constructed in the same way as the example above using two circles. A further two circles are used for the main body.

Cartoon Drawings of Animals - Dogs & Cats
Below is a cartoon showing how to construct a dog from some circles, each again representing an area of the body, two for the head, two for the body. Finally I have also included a cartoon of a cat, without the initial circles this time. Can you guess how many circles were used for this cartoon?
