Tired Profile Picture? Cartoon Portrait Avatars are Hot!

Ranked #552 in Arts & Design, #5,983 overall

Need a new Profile Icon? Try a Cartoon Portrait Avatar. Realisitic NOT, but Fun

This is my avatar history and review of cartoon portrait generator websites, and online avatar makers. The following shows my reviews and results. I've also included a listing of avatar makers, and profile or photo generators, that I have yet to test.

<--- Me? Not exactly, but it does show some similar characteristics. This is a the last poll winner, but dressed and decorated for the season. This face has won the last 10 polls, so it's safe to say it's a keeper. If it wins again, I'll be using a Spring-themed look. :D

I've had quite a few online profile icons, also known as modern Avatars, over the years. I have chosen from cartoons, funny characters, made banners, and I even spotlighted specific merchandise items I have on sale. With the addition of the numerous interactive Cartoon picture creators, there is no limit to the creative possibilities to capture a fun representation of yourself.

I would also like to ask for you help keeping me out of my avatar rut since I tend to keep one for years... Won't you vote for your choice of which cartoon avatar you think I should use for my next face here on Squidoo and other online communities?

Enjoy and thanks for your assistance.

Have you thought about trying a Cartoon Profile Avatar?

My Cartoon Profile Face for the 1980's

The newest craze seems to be the Cartoon-Style Portrait Avatar.
I tried a few of them. Lots of options and styles.

Picking pre-made parts to make a whole never quite works out the way you think it will. My results below confirmed that, oh, I would say, without question. You'll see what I mean soon.

But it's fun, so give it a shot and see what you can come up with. It may not look exactly like you, but hey, that's half the fun and adds to the mystery of an anonymous avatar. (Who the heck is that person behind the pink furry monster?).

What's better? Real Photo vs. Avatar?

Real Photo of me because I want to share with the world Who I Am...

autoliquidator says:

sweet

Tipi says:

To each his own, I haven't explored the world of being a cartoon yet.

says:

This is a Great Lens, I love avatar's. I did not know some of the avatar places that you posted here, thank you so much! :)

JoshK47 says:

I like real avatars, but I've always considered getting a cartoon picture just for a change of pace for a while. :)

pheonix76 says:

I think I real photo is better, but the avatars are cool!

Guigo says:

Hi I am new:)

BunnyFabulous says:

I've got a real photo, but mostly because I haven't found an avatar I like yet. I think there's something to be said about the credibility of a real photo, but there are lots of avatars I like and think are pretty cool

yourgoldenfuture says:

i like real photos...shows my real me...

rlivermore says:

I've used a real photo so far, but I really like the thought of using an avatar.

hayleylou says:

I use Real photos, but I may switch one day :)

resabi says:

My compromise position: my avatar includes my pic but it's pretty tiny and surrounded by other things and people in my life. I keep adding teeny bits.

my_never_bored_hands says:

I like to see real people instead of Avatars..But I didn't have picture of myself on the moment when I create my first lens. I was looking through all pictures I've taken... there were kids, flowers, sky...anything, except photo of myself... And now I just don't want to change my avatar, may be in the future...

vallain says:

I like to relate to online friends as people, so I like seeing a real face.

crosscreations says:

I use a real photo. Avatars are fun and good to use in some places.

Joan4 says:

I use a real photo although it is about ten years old! It makes me happy. I think I still look like that! lol lol

24websurf says:

I use a real picture and STILL no autographs hounds.. what does a girl have to do? :)

Norma_Budden says:

I prefer to use my real photo because I want people to identify with me instead of a graphic design. I update my photos often because I want people to know me in "real time" so to speak. I don't like the idea of being a certain age and having a photo depicting me years younger than my current age. I also like to see real images of people when I read their lenses...it's just me.

WindyWinters says:

I use a Real Photo now. When I had a cat username...I had a cat avatar.

SueM11 says:

I have both. I like avatar as it puts some humor in my profile.

BertBert says:

I was tired of my other avatar so I painted my face and changed the avatar.
Works for me. I like your avatar and and cartoons.

Anonymous Avatar because there ain't NO Way you're gonna see the Real Me...

CountrySunshine says:

I prefer the Avatar... the Internet is FOREVER and I don't know that I want my real image shown for that long!

says:

Really? The avatars hands down. They're hot!

RenaissanceWoman2010 says:

Both photos and avatars have their own role to play. It depends on the site. I'm not afraid to show the real me, but sometimes it is fun to have an alter ego. Even real photos can be misleading at times (like using a photo from 20 years ago).

Lobsterisland says:

I like real photo but most site only allow you upload you photo if under 1MB. I think avatar is useful if you can't upload your real picture.

ComedyFrog says:

Both are great but cartoons and avatars are really cool, especially when you can make your own from scratch.

Soap says:

I also use Avatar

jvsper63 says:

I have a real from 6 years ago. But I kind of wish I did an avatar they are so cute!

AbsoluteJeanius says:

I have been my little hatted 'self' for years, and I couldn't bear to lose her!

musicaldreamer says:

I talk about some touchy issues, so I want to remain anonymous

mich1908 says:

I'm shy! But I have put a photo of me somewhere in one of my lenses.

RealityTV says:

Love the avatars --especially the cartoon ones!

Cartoono says:

It depends on what you're promoting. As a cartoonist, I'm bound to show off what I can do, hence the cartoon self portrait avatar!

CR2000 says:

It's fun to see how i look like in a cartoon world !

burgessvillian says:

I like the Avatar because it keeps people guessing

vallain says:

I'm back and as you see, I switched from the real photo of me to an avatar created with one of the sites you listed. It feels fun (and considerably younger than my real photo). I guess the avatar sites don't know how to add wrinkles.

lumpy22 says:

Avatar but I haven't made one yet I will and use it everywhere

OhMe says:

I just think it is fun to have an avatar but I like it when people use their real pictures. I am just going to stick with my Ohme Bug!

bethd821 says:

I can look thinner and younger!

Mickie_G says:

The camera does not like me. That is why I use the red wagon. On some websites I have a real picture of me, but not a close-up. I am too vain.

Pukeko says:

mine is somewhere in the middle, so friends know its me, but others don't.

My Previous Avatars: No resemblence at all, but there is a reason...

An emblem for a Yamaha Roadstar(166)

A little back story here...

Originally My husband and I created this name on eBay to buy and sell car & motorcycle parts.

Well... he still buys car parts and accessories. I buy, but mainly sell, other vintage to new merchandise. The Roadstar166 name, since it's inception, has built up over 100 positive feedback ratings in eBay and iOffer. I understand it's now a lot harder to sell or even buy with a 0 rating than it was when we started. I hate the thought of giving up our great reputation just to change the name.

Auto part sales?
Not yet, anyway, but if I could get him to part with the extra's taking possession over the garage...
invading the basement...
staking claim in the spare bedroom...
and OMG!....

creeping into our bedroom!

These early Avatars are a little bit closer to the real me...

but without showing any of my facial features

This was another iOffer avatar for my Roadstar166 iOffer store. -->
Yeah, I know. It's just "scratching" the surface of the real me, but I am blonde and do exist on coffee while I'm online
Animated to jitter something fierce...
Should I say VERY Appropriate?

Candle flameMy original avatar, the Flame, was in reference to my name here, other places, and more importantly my crafting obsession. I make soy candles. Yeah I know..."Well, that's obvious". But that is my "brand" so I've stuck with it here on Squidoo up until my last voting results . I am updating my avatar here often, so I need your help to help stay out of my usual keep it for years avatar-rut since my name should take care of the "branding", but I'll touch more on that later.

About that Avatar Rut I mentioned earlier...

Help! Please vote below for my newest Cartoon avatar!I have created a few new avatars using the sites shown below. I beg you for your help further below. So please Vote today!

About that Avatar-Rut. I do believe it is a real place. I swear I do. I have seen helpless people trapped there for YEARS. Are you? Maybe someone you know or have seen under that dusty and faded Avatar? Now is the time to freshen up that tired old avatar, so read on for the CURE. Don't forget to tell your friends that here is THE remedy. They may be relieved that someone noticed their malaise and took pity on them. :D

Want more than just an Avatar? Zwinky

Very popular with many. Can be used as an avatar by myspace, facebook and other online and gaming communities. Also can be used to play dress up.

Bonuses included are Smiley Central, Cursor Mania, Popular Screensavers, and the the MyWebSearch® search box and Search Assistant.

I have chosen not to try it as MyWebSearch Toolbar is installed prior to creating a Zwinky. It may just be my paranoia talking, but I have had past issues with this toolbar and a file is automatically removed by Firefox 1.5.0.2 and later releases. Since I use Firefox as my primary browser, I'd rather not take a chance on this application, but I feel it is my mission not to make an uninformed judgment, but to inform others of possible options.

Read the End User License Agreement prior to creating your Zwinky, and if you can accept the terms, then by all means, do proceed.

OK, it's a Bank., but they are cute, Share on FaceBook, Twitter, bookmarking, blogs and more.

SoyCandleLover-Maker on Squidoo using Lloyd's TSB MeYou can also submit your likeness creation for a future Ad campaign. :D

The only downloads available are for sharing on social sites, or you can save by registering your email address and Lloyd's will send you a link to edit your character further. but I liked my "Me" so much that I took a screen shot (print screen) and cropped it in MS Windows Paint. I chose to use the whole body with character name, but very well could have cropped it to appear as just a head shot, too.

Oh... I didn't find this. They found me and wrote me a note here at Squidoo.
Wow, I feel like a star. :D

Simplistic, but maybe the popularity of Wii has given this avatar maker a boost.

Several options to save, but I just used Export to save as an avatar.

I probably won't be using this since it's fee-based and starts at $9.95 to get this avatar on trial, but it looks good if you have the need and resources.

Untested Avatar Makers

Stay tuned for Details of my Review and Test Results

Avatar Face Generator [James Cameron Movie]
I did try this out, but I as I am the family photographer, I apparently don't have a photo at the moment that works with this program. Yet. :D
James Cameron's Avatar created a great buzz in 3D filming technology and depicted a world of high-tech wonder (except for wheelchairs and outdated weapons). As a part of marketing campaign for Avatar movie, McDonalds has come up with a "Avatarize yourself"...
Gravatar - Globally Recognized Avatars

Need to register with email address with password to use.
Mr. Picassohead avatar generator
Looks like a direct online avatar creator.
Yahoo Avatar maker
For Yahoo members. Go for the membership, since there are many avenues open to members.
Very popular according to my surfing results.
Toonlet Comic picture generator
"Create and share your own webcomic from a computer or phone more quickly than a coffee break!
No drawing required."
Looks like a online generator at first glance. Black and white, line-drawing style.
WeeWorld
"Welcome to WeeWorld - the social network built for fun where you can meet new friends, send messages, play games, and create your own avatar."
Need to register with user name, password, email address, birthday, country, and agree to terms & conditions. I'm unsure, as of yet, if you can take your avatar elsewhere, although I did use "Save as" successfully.
Gizmoz
"Gizmoz is a free online service that enable you to create your own super cool animated avatar from a facial photo and then use it on social networks, voip calls, mobile, blogs, e-mails and web profiles".
Uploaded from a photo from your computer.
Digibody's Caricature Maker
"Create your own Avatars. Caricatures by Louai Munajim. I have taken my caricatures and broken them down into pieces".
Look like an online creator.
Faketown
I haven't gotten past the "Authorization Required" screen yet, but haven't tried yet, either. :D
Club Cooee: Avatar 3D Chat & Virtual World Messenger (formerly Weblin?)
Membership required?
I really haven't looked into this too far, yet.
Meez: Avatars, Free Games, and Virtual Worlds
"At Meez, you can create animated 3D avatars, dress up the avatars, play free games and use the avatars in virtual worlds. Use your avatar as an AIM emoticon or export it into MySpace, Facebook and other sites."
Started to create with online maker, but it froze at saving. Will try again at some point, but unsure of general usability.
Why Robbie Rocks
Full body avatar. Not much choice for body style that I've found. Every attempt looks like a teenager/model.
Could not save without sign in? Will try again later.
Welcome to Gaia
"Gaia Online is an online hangout, incorporating social networking, forums, gaming and a virtual world."
Need to register with user name, password, email address, birthday, and agree to terms & conditions.
I'm unsure, as of yet, if you can take your avatar elsewhere

I hope you enjoyed this lens as much as I did writing it.
