Cats and Kids!
Those Claws Sure are Sharp!
Kids and cats are inseparable. But what can start out with a bit of play can easily turn into tears, and unfortunately this can turn into a pattern of behavior. Sometimes when a cat bites and scratches it's just play fighting and might not of been trained properly when it was a kitten. There are some simple easy-to-follow steps to learn how to prevent a cat's aggression toward people, how to deal with it when it happens, and how to change it's biting and scratching behavior.
This aggressive feline behavior can also be directed at other family pets, either another family cat or a dog. It can be caused by many things including fear.
The Owling Howling Cat!
Is Your Cat in Heat?
Are you being kept up at night by some strange cat howling? Is your new feline friend doing some pretty strange behavior? She may also seem agitate and very restless. If so, she may very well be coming into heat, or more medically know as oestrus. This will happen if your cat isn't spayed or fixed. There are a few things you can do to calm your cat down. The simplest technique is to devote extra time to her. Playing, petting or brushing her more will help. Remember your female cat is only acting out a natural desire to attract male cats during this time. The more you know your cat and the more you know how to care for it will help you understand and enjoy her more.
The only way to permanently stop the heat cycle, is to have your cat spayed. There are many other health reasons why you should consider having this done.
The Kitty Litter Box!
Keep it Clean and Private.
Cats are very clean animals by nature, and they are very independent and private. So the very best practice when providing your cat it's litter box, it's best to keep it as clean and private as possible. This will prevent your cat from using other parts of the home for it's business.
If your cat is not using it's box consistantly, it's probably because it needs cleaned, or perhaps an unscented litter might be preferred. Find a quiet out of the way, yet convenient location for the box, making it private and simple for your cat.

The Designer Scratching Post!
Modify Your Cat's Behavior.
Wondering why your cat is so drawn to scratching your expensive sofa or chair? Your cat is just demonstrating the natural behavior to scratch. They do this for a variety of reasons. The most common reason is, they are just stretching their bodies and claws. It's something cats love to and need to do. Another not so commonly known reason is they are leaving their mark or scent. Cat's have scent glands on their paws, so by scratching they are marking their territory (even if it's your living room). Or they are just working off some energy.
Okay, natural or not, you didn't buy that expensive designer sofa so it could become a scratching post for your cat. Should you punish your cat for doing this? Absolutely not! It's important to never punish your cat for doing natural behavior, you need to just modify it, and their are many methods to do this. One way to solve the furniture scratching issue is to just give her something else to scratch on, like a real scratching post from your local pet store.
