Cat rescue

Most of the cat lovers who want to get a cat for their household usually go for a kitten from a reputed cat breeder. Sometimes people start keeping cats because their neighbor might want to sell off their litter of kittens.

But, if you want to buy a cat from the rescue center, you must know that these pets have been ill-treated and they would want an extra dose of love and care from you. It is easy to love a newly born kitten; but are you ready to fall in love with a cat from the rescue center? This is the question you should ask yourself and your family members before you go about the process of acquiring the cat from a rescue center.

Most of the cats found in the rescue centre are from homes that did not treat them well, so some of the cats strayed off. Most of them have been through numerous hardships and may be ailing as well, but all of them need your love and attention.

It is always easy to love someone who has grown up being loved and appreciated, but it is quite an uphill task to befriend someone who has been through a nasty experience simply because they have lost faith and no longer have the gumption to go through the experience all over again.

If you have made up your mind and want to bring home a cat from the rescue center, then it will be a good idea to go to the rescue center from time to time and observe the cats and kittens. During this period try to stay away from these adorable creatures and avoid interacting with them; try to observe the general activities of all the cats.

In case, you see some cat, which is lethargic and stays huddled up in its cage then that is a sure sign that the animal has some disease that will result in expensive vet bills. Sometimes this approach may be wrong as well, sometimes it may so happen that an abused feline will avoid interacting with human beings in fear that they will be abused again. So do not dismiss an animal before knowing its history, because love and care can usually turn back the animals from such psychological stress and they will respond in various ways to show their affection.

Look for cats with bright eyes. You must know that cats with drooping eyelids and weepy eyes usually suffer from an eye condition. The cat's fur should be clean, shiny, and free of all sorts of fleas.

The cat should not cough or sneeze. If it does so, that may indicate severe respiratory trouble. Try to interact with the kitten of your choice. If it actively participates then its okay, but if it does not respond, stay away from it, because it is an indication of some kind of an anomaly.

In case you have kids at home, it will be best to stay away from cats that have an aggressive history. Remember that any cat that comes from a rescue center will be stressed at some level or another. So, be patient with them and soon they will shower you with unconditional love.
