Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Cavaliers Make Wonderful Pets for Most Families
The versatile Cavalier King Charles Spaniel makes a great pet for almost any family. Cavaliers are warm and loving dogs that are devoted to their owners. They are playful and energetic, but also love to cuddle up for a nap! They generally adapt well to small children and other pets. Due to their size, they are suitable dogs for apartment dwellers, although the Cavalier King Charlesl does require regular exercise and loves to take long walks with their owners. Which is your favorite color Cavalier?
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels traditionally have coats in four color combinations.
Cavaliers are the PERFECT SIZE to...
To cuddle up in your lap. (Try doing that with a Labrador Retriever!)To pick up and carry in your arms - in case you need to get them out of reach of other dogs, or just because they're so sweet to hold.
To fit in a traveling crate or doggie seat. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a great little traveler!
To make training easy. They are clever and quick. And not so big that they will pull you off your feet while you're teaching them to "heel."
To keep them from stealing food off the dining table.
To keep their tails from sweeping wine glasses off the cocktail table onto your carpet.
To easily give them a bath in your kitchen sink so they will always be soft and shiny.
Grooming Tips
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a long, silky coat that benefits from regular brushing to avoid snarls and tangles. Yes, they do shed, so occasionally it's wise to use a de-shedding tool, such as a Furrminator. The good news is that it is okay (and in fact, preferred) not to have your Cavalier's coat professionally cut. If your Cavalier King Charles is simply a companion pet, you may choose to have his coat clipped in the summer, but be warned that it often grows back much thicker than before. It is often recommended just to have the hair trimmed between their footpads and leave the rest of their coats untouched.
Bathing your Cavalier at home is simple, but please use a shampoo specially formulated for dogs. Dogs have a different Ph level than humans.
Finding Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies
Look for a Reputable Breeder of Cavalier Spaniels
No, please don't buy that puppy in the window!Too often puppies sold in local pet shops have been raised by puppy mills and backyard breeders that are more interested in quick profits than healthy dogs.
Your best bet is to find a reputable breeder of Cavaliers and then ask a lot of questions to determine whether this breeder raises Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies that will be right for your needs. Be patient and willing to wait for their next litter, rather than rushing to buy the first puppy you see - only to find out that puppy isn't healthy.

- Bentley,
We're thinking about getting our first dog and toying between a King Charles and a Westie.
You're making it tough for the Westies!
Cheers,
Sheila
