A House Fit for a Circus King
That was before the six-year $15 million restoration completed in 2002.
Historians call Ca d'Zan "the last of the Gilded Age mansions" built in the United States. John and Mable Ringling engaged architect Dwight James Baum to design the palatial residence using the Doge's Palace in Venice as an important inspiration.
Completed in time for Christmas 1925, the mansion has 41 rooms and 15 bathrooms in about 36,000 square feet. The five-story building has a full basement and an 81-foot tower open on four sides and covered with a high domed ceiling.

- The movie was fascinating, and I always meant to look it up to find out where it was filmed. I used to live in Florida, so some of the beach scenes looked familiar, but I had no idea the house was down there. Very interesting!

- What do I think? This is HUGELY interesting: "Remember the 1998 movie adaptation of Charles Dicken's novel, Great Expectations starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow? Anne Bancroft played the crazy Nora Dinsmoor, the richest lady living on the Florida Gulf Coast and Ca d'Zan won the role as her crumbling residence." Wow! I did not know that.
