  • Take Me Out ot the Ballgame - 1927

    Nelly Kelly love baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
    Shout "Hurray," when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
    If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
    At the old ball game."

Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
    All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song.

    It's a Wonderful Life

    (60th Anniversary Edition)

Too Much of a Good Thing shirt

It has been more than 60 years since we were give this unforgettable movie and it is really wonderful that we are still able to see and experience the message that is being delivered.

Now perhaps the most beloved American film, It's a Wonderful Life was largely forgotten for years, due to a copyright quirk. Only in the late 1970s did it find its audience through repeated TV showings. Frank Capra's masterwork deserves its status as a feel-good communal event, but it is also one of the most fascinating films in the American cinema, a multilayered work of Dickensian density.

George Bailey (played superbly by James Stewart) grows up in the small town of Bedford Falls, dreaming dreams of adventure and travel, but circumstances conspire to keep him enslaved to his home turf. Frustrated by his life, and haunted by an impending scandal, George prepares to commit suicide on Christmas Eve. A heavenly messenger (Henry Travers) arrives to show him a vision: what the world would have been like if George had never been born.

The sequence is a vivid depiction of the American Dream gone bad, and probably the wildest thing Capra ever shot (the director's optimistic vision may have darkened during his experiences making military films in World War II). Capra's triumph is to acknowledge the difficulties and disappointments of life, while affirming--in the teary-eyed final reel--his cherished values of friendship and individual achievement. It's a Wonderful Life was not a big hit on its initial release, and it won no Oscars (Capra and Stewart were nominated); but it continues to weave a special magic. --Robert Horton

    Product Description

George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all - and it's Christmas! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn't been for all of his good deeds over the years. Will Clarence be able to convince George to return to his family and forget suicide?

    Happy Independence Day

    Happy 4th of July

Why do we celebrate the 4th of July.

The wonderful history of the 4th of July is that this is the day America was born. In the year 1776. On the 3rd of July, 1776, (and all of the days and years since America was discovered) America was under the rule of Great Britian. On this day - the 4th of July - the Declaration of Independence was signed by our Founding Fathers.

There are many reasons why the United Stated decided to declare themselves independent and this is why the Declaration of Independence is so thorough. It was meant to protect generation after generation of Americans and to ensure that we and our children and their children live a free and independent life.

When I was a child I used to wonder why do we celebrate Independence Day? I thought the reason was so that families could get together and have an elaborate cookout. Now I know better. It is because We are the land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Go on a Picnic With Someone You Love

Easy picnic recipes and a blanket can be the makings of a meal that you will remember for years to come. The perfect picnic menu should be something that will not make you ill after your meal. • Cheese and crackers
  • A salad with an oil and vinegar dressing
  • Fruit - apples, oranges, strawberries, watermelon, grapes...
  • A refreshing beverage
  • Music
  • Insect repellant
  • A camera

  • You can also take some games to play that will give you some exercise.

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts, at Lowell recently did a study with mice and found that those with an Alzheimer's-like disease navigated through a designed maze just as well as the healthy mice after they were given the equivalent of two glasses of antioxidant-rich apple juice every day.

They also believe that for humans a cup of juice or one apple per day will have a similar effect.

An apple a day really is good for you. Add fresh apples to your daily diet everyday.

If you are on the 3 apple a day diet, the apples are adding necessary nutrients to your body. Apples have been giving us these needed nutrients for centuries. The 3 a day apple diet is great way to add fiber to your diet.

The health benifits of eating a apple a day will only do you good.

How We Choose to Be Happy: The 9 Choices of Extremely Happy People--Their Secrets, Their Stories

Foster and Hicks conduct workshops internationally in the development of interpersonal skills. For this book, they interviewed happy people from all walks of life, from the United States to Eastern Europe. The resulting personal stories, writing exercises, and quotes together inform and instruct the reader in the nine principles discovered by the authors in their travels.

Foster and Hicks use their nine choices to teach leadership development in the corporate world and also as a diagnostic tool for medical doctors. These choices include the active intention to be happy, accountability, identifying needs and desires, and centralizing goals by creating a dream list. These are followed by recasting (looking at experiences in positive ways), exploring options, appreciating every day, the art of giving, and, finally, exploring truthfulness.

Similar to Sarah Ban Breathnach's Simple Abundance (Warner, 1995) and the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, this is recommended for public libraries and consumer health collections.?Lisa S. Wise, Broome Cty. P.L., Binghamton, NY

You Can Be Happy No Matter What: Five Principles for Keeping Life in Perspective

Many people believe they can only be happy when their problems are solved, relationships improve, and goals are achieved. In this simple guide, Dr. Richard Carlson shows readers how to be happy right now - no matter the situation. His plan, based on the principles of Thought (thoughts are voluntary, not involuntary);Mood (thinking is a voluntary that varies function varies from moment to moment and these variances are called moods); Separate Realities (everyone thinks in a unique way and lives in separate psychological realities); Feelings (feelings and emotions serve as a barometer for when one is "off-track" and headed for unhappiness); and the Present Moment (the only time when genuine contentment, satisfaction, and happiness). This timeless book guides readers through life's challenges and restores the joy of living along the way.

      Hi Necessary,

it is with regret that I have to inform you that your lens(es) will soon be removed from the SUMMER Group.
I had made it a requirement for all members to confirm their membership by writing a comment in the group's guestbook in order to stay in the group, and I had informed you accordingly. Deadline is May 15.
This is NOT about the quality of your lens(es) - I still like them -, this is about active membership.
You are welcome to re-submit anytime.

      Hi Necessary

I urgently need you to make your appearance in the Group's Headquarters and leave your mark in form of a comment in the guestbook!

You have until May 15 to do so. If you haven't shown up by then I will remove your lens from the Group.

      Explanation:
SUMMER Group is now entering its third season and has grown rather big: just under 200 lenses and 100 lensmasters. I intend to keep it there, I do not want to grow it any bigger. But I am getting a lot of requests from new lensmasters wanting to join, and in order to give them a chance I have decided to do some major weeding out.
