Celtic Music: Flook

Ranked #8,116 in Music, #216,278 overall | Donates to KIVA

An award-winning, flute-driven Anglo/Irish quartet

The first time you hear Flook, you'll know you've discovered something special. The driving force of the group is the flute playing of Sarah Allen from London, one of the founding members. Brian Finnegan from Co. Armagh adds wooden flute and tin whistles. Ed Boyd from Bath plays guitar and bouzouki. John Joe Kelly from Manchester is noted as one of the best bodhran players around, and also plays mandolin.

Flook plays in the traditional style, while, as is so often the case with modern Celtic groups, band members write many of the tunes themselves. The group was founded in 1995 by Becky Morris, who has since left, along with Sarah, Brian, and Michael McGoldrick, who left in 1997 to join Capercaillie, the Kate Rusby Band, and Lunasa.

In December 2008 Sarah, Brian, Ed and John Joe sent a message to their fans which reads, in part, "After 13-plus years, hundreds of gigs, millions of miles travelled together and countless brilliant times, we've decided to call it a day. It might be forever or a prolonged pause, who knows, but we're all still great friends and will always remain so."
