The Irish Press Hails Téada

One of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Irish traditional music scene in recent years, Teada has caught the attention of the press. "Teada...determinedly keep the traditional flag flying at full mast...they imbue their music with a decidedly Old World feeling." - Irish Times

"A new and fresh face in Irish music, Teada is a band to watch out for," says The Irish Voice. In Irish Music Magazine they were voted "Best Traditional Newcomers."

Téada Carries Irish Tradition into the 21st Century

Formed in 2001, Téada (the name means "strings" in the Irish language) quickly gained recognition by appearing on the Irish TV show Flosc. Known for their fascination with the timeless tunes of their forebears in Irish music, Téada has performed at major music festivals in the US, Canada, Europe, Isreal, Malaysia and Australia.

While the DVD which is part of their latest release features a documentary on the music of County Sligo, the five members of Téada hail from five different counties.

Oisin Mac Diarmada, the fiddler and Téada's founder, came from County Clare and later moved to County Sligo where he developed an interest in the fiddling style of the North Connacht region.

Paul Finn, button accordion player, is from County Laois. He has played with major touring dance production and frequently joined in the session scene prior to joining Téada.

Damien Stenson, the band's flute player, is from County Sligo. He is known for his flowing style of playing and his extensive repertoire.

Sean Mc Elwain, bouzouki and guitar player, is from County Monaghan. He is actively involved in organizing and running an annual music weekend known as Scoil Cheoil na Botha.

Tristan Rosenstock, bodhrán player, is from Glenageary in County Dublin. In addition to performing with Téada, he has recorded and toured with other performers and is involved in freelance media work.

Inne Amarach (Yesterday Tomorrow)

Released in 2006 on Compass Records in the US

The title is especially appropriate as Teada takes tunes from as early as the 18th century and mixes them will more modern works. In addition to the CD, a bonus DVD is included showing Teada in performance and a documentary about the Sligo region, an area rich in traditional music history. Group members on the album are: Oisin Mac Diarmada, Paul Finn, Damien Stenson, Sean Mc Elwain and Tristan Rosenstock.

I saw them a few years ago when they came to New Glasgow, NS. We enjoyed the show very much and left with a copy of Give Us a Penny and Let Us Be Gone. I hope they will back this way someday soon.
