Introducing Chairmen of the Board

One of my favorite Carolina Beach Music groups of all time has got to be General Norman Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board. The music written and performed by Norman Johnson has touched so many beach music fans over the last 5 decades. "Give me just a little more time" recorded in 1970 is still playing all over the Beach Music scene throughout radio stations across the Carolinas. Norman Johnson, one of the founding members, passed away in October of 2010. The group continues to perform as a tribute to the General today

General Norman JohnsonNorman Johnson was born in Norfolk, VA in 1943. He passed due to Lung Cancer in October 2010. He played with "The Showmen" prior to starting with the Group " The Chairmen of the Board". The group was very successful with their first album" Chairmen of the Board" later released as "Give Me Just a Little More Time"

Johnson toured the UK with Danny Woods and 4 other musicians in 1976 but broke up after the tour.

Johnson reformed the group in 1978 with Ken Knox and Danny Woods and became probably the most popular Beach Music Group of all time.

    I first saw them in North Myrtle Beach in 1980 and I continue to see them every chance I get.

    Heard their music for years not knowing it was called beach music, my first experience seeing them live was probably at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach on a December 30th over 10 years ago.
