Add value to the sale of your home with faux wood blinds

Ranked #32,906 in Home & Garden, #595,620 overall

Faux wood blinds attract positive attention to all the best areas of your home during walk through.

There are a lot of different ways you can use blinds to add value to your house. If you are getting ready to sell a home you can really improve the look and feel of the home by adding cheap faux window blinds to each room. The blinds are less expensive and can add depth and color with out taking away from your budget.

Because the blinds are synthetic they can be made to mimic just about any color your home currently has, which makes it an economically prudent way to up-grade the look. This also allows you to match the blinds colors with the major colors of the house creating a look that blends well together.

The only overall advice I can give is make sure your blinds are not the center of the meal, make them a less important side dish. They are not the meat, not the potatoes, - they are the surprisingly tasty stuffed mushrooms.

Choosing the Right Window Blinds

Faux wood blinds will come in a few different styles and mounting options which will allow you to add them to the current window without much customization. You can even go down to Home Depot and get blinds and they will cut them for you to make sure they fit perfectly inside the window. You have a series of choices to make before you head down to pick some out, so lets outline them here for you.

Inside mounting or Outside mounting - Essentially your blinds have two places they can be fit. If you want them to be inset in the window then you will need to purchase inside mounting blinds. This means the blinds will sit inside the window recessed from the wall. The advantage here is that if you have molding around the window you will end up with a very clean finish.

Outside Mounting Blinds mean they will mount outside of the recessed window frame meaning they basically cover the window from the inside of the house. The advantage here is that the blinds can completely cover the window and in the event you don't have decorative molding around the window you can make the window look like it has a nice finish by hiding the lack thereof behind the blinds.

Designing to sell can be an art; consult the experts

Choose a Neutral Color Scheme

Your blinds are the accent piece to your homes design. If it is something that people comment about you have a problem. Unless you have brand new faux wood plantation shutters comments about your blinds should be minimal if any. Can you imagine going into a house and making a purchase based on the blinds in the home? Seriously? No one is looking for blinds so yours should essentially be seen and not heard.

Faux wood blinds now can be made in a ton of different colors which can be tempting. Don't get suckered into buying blinds that don't really fit your home. Another technique people use to get their house sold quickly is to pick a very warm and soft color scheme. If your carpets are loud you need to balance them out by choosing soft blinds.

If you have wooden accents in the home that are other than white, then make sure you match those colors with your blinds to blend everything together. People want to get the feeling that their new furniture will go well with the house as is, after all its a big investment, so you don't want the blinds to turn off someones ability to picture their own things in your home.

Why the Blinds Raise the Value

The reason blinds are so important is because they typical harness for better or worse the light coming into your home. As a prospective buyer most people look for rooms that give off good light. The only exception to this is maybe a basement where you have an entertainment center. Other than that you will never hear a prospective buyer come into your house and say...oh wow - look how dark and dreary this place is.

The light coming in from the windows is what draws peoples eyes to the window dressings and blinds themselves. If you can frame this light in the proper way you can really turn up the quality of a room and its ability to be inviting. The opposite is just as true, if the room is light and warm but the eyes are still drawn to the windows but if you have old outdated blinds it will be a turn off, similar to looking at a pretty girl from the legs up to realize she is Sarah Jessica Parker with a great body but a face that looks like a foot.

Blind Functionality

Window blinds will have two basic options when it comes to how to operate them. There are typically strings that will pull the blinds up and down as well as opening and closing them. The issue with the string operating blinds is that are more easily tangled up and rendered useless. You will know what I'm talking about if you've ever tried to open the window blinds and had one side shoot straight up with the other just kinda hangs there.

Your other option is to get the blinds that have a wooden spindle that rotates to open and close the blinds. These can last longer and have little ability to get tangled. The down side here is that if you have any kids who may not be able to sense when the blinds are over loaded they will twist beyond the torque capability of the wooden spindle.

When it comes to installation of the blinds you may find it beneficial to create guide holes that are slightly smaller than the screw's themselves in order to assure they go in with out a lot of force.
