Planning for your wedding reception is generally where the most money is spent, but there are ways to get around hurting your wallet too much. Cheap wedding receptions are the desire of most engaged couples, as they do not have a large wedding budget, or simply do not wish to spend tons of cash. Below you will find a few ways to cut back on your reception spending so that you will have more money to spend on the ceremony and honeymoon.

Limit your Guest List for a Cheap Wedding Reception 

One of the biggest aspects of cheap wedding receptions is to create a short guest list that contains about 100 people. It only makes sense that the less people you invite, the less money you will spend. You will want to your family and friends to share your special day with you, but there's no need to invite the whole city. If you place a wedding announcement in the newspaper, leave off the exact location and time, so that only people who receive a formal invitation will attend. This will cut down on the cost of catering, venue size, and wedding favors.

Cater your Own Reception 

Okay, before you go crazy on me, this is much easier than you may be thinking. Of course, you wouldn't want to do all the food preparation by yourself. Instead, employ the help of your friends and family, especially the good cooks. Designate someone to be over the food so that you won't have to worry about it. Purchasing the food and having it prepared for free is a lot cheaper than hiring a catering service, and you will have more control of the menu you serve.

Do your Own Wedding Music 

Wedding MC's and DJ's can be very expensive, some charging by the hour. A much less expensive alternative is to create a wedding CD, and enlist the help of someone to control it for you during the reception. This can also be done during the ceremony, when the bridal music is to be played. Not only will this route save you money, you will have the CD to keep as a memento.
