Why You Shouldn't Buy A Cheap Shed (With 1 Exception)

Getting A Cheap Shed Can Be A Major Hassle

If you are looking to buy a shed, you may be tempted to get a cheap one to save yourself a little cash. This is not a good idea - especially if you are buying your shed new. Cheap wooden sheds fall apart and cheap plastic and metal ones aren't any better.

I actually say in my title there is one exception, but in reality there are two. I'll go over them with you and how you can get a cheap shed without sacrificing quality.

To Get A Quality Cheap Shed Build Your Own

Now at this point you may be thinking - "Whoa Nelly, I can't build my own shed!!! Are you crazy!". I don't blame you a bit. Back when my husband and I bought our house we built a brand new one because we are not handy people. But guess what? You can build a shed. It isn't that hard (I pinky promise you)!

One of the best ways to get a cheap shed that actually looks good is to build one yourself. You can check out better shed designs here and get a good feel for what to look for in shed plans, so you know how to get the right shed plan for your specific needs.

Here Is The Plan

(Simple Tricks That Make Building Your Shed Easier)

When you decide to build your shed and get your shed plans, here is a couple of simple tips to make your life easier.

-Get the people at the home improvement store to cut your lumber for you
-Enlist help (have a shed building / pizza party)

OK - OK, I know that these two tips seem really simple. But - honestly they work. Most home improvement stores will cut your lumber for very little cost and if you get a friend to help getting your shed up will be WAY easier - I promise.

Find A Cheap Shed By Buying Used

I am a great big believer in finding cool used stuff and reusing it for myself. Not only does this save me a ton of money each year, but it is the ultimate way to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

For an item like a shed, I like to make sure I can see it in person. Around here they have those cool little magazines you can pick up that are basically a giant classified ad. They are called penny pinchers. (Funny name, I know). Most communities have them. They are a great place to find a local person wanting to sell their shed. Another great place to look is Craig's list online. It's amazing what they have listed there. If you are interested in buying something and look long enough you will probably find it there.

You Can Get A Cheap Shed!

So there you are. Those are my two favorite ways to get a cheap shed. If you decide you want to buy new instead, be sure that you spend a little more to get quality. A new cheap shed is very rarely worth it.
