All Hail the Egg !
The Chicken Came After the Egg
Eggs existed long before the chicken entered the picture (dinosaur eggs anyone?).
Eggs: 1

I have to agree with "Nobody" and say the egg. But JKJ makes an interesting point about god and Sunday brunch. I mean, who doesn't like eggs Benedict and a bloody mary about 11-ish?

nobody says:
Of course the egg comes first. It is common sense. Evolution happens by mutation. The first generation chicken hatched from an egg laid by a bird that was very similar to, but still not quite, a chicken.

Way to switch sides Rockford!
A mutated lizard egg hatched a chicken, so eggs came before chickens.
Of course if the question was, "Which came first, animals that lay eggs or the egg." I may have a different answer. But since the question specifically says "chickens" I'm gonna have to go with the incredible, edible egg.

There were organisms around before chickens evolved that reproduced using eggs.

Thr real question is did the egg come first or the omlette?

Chicken laid the egg, the chicken evolved from something else!

Chicken came first. After 6 days of creating, God wanted to have an egg at his Sunday's breakfast.

Rockford says:
Nup. Ultimately to create a chicken according to natural selection, a mutation would have occured to make a singular species of bird that we call a chicken. That chicken would be first to lay what we know as a chicken egg. I mean, birds evolved from reptiles, so a reptilian egg may be related, but not a chicken egg. No - hang on. You're right. Because the mutation to the chicken would have happened within the proto-chicken, creating a chicken egg first which cracked open the first chicken. The egg IS first. Makes you think though - chicken meat is in a way a relative of lizard meat. No wonder snake tastes like chicken

Alex again says:
But on the other hand.. you're right there was probably some mutation that messed up a bird and that was the first chicken. UNLESS the mutation happened while the chicken was in the egg.. hmmm

Josh the Master says:
Who laid the friggin egg then? Duh!
I think this classic debate is not "Which came first, A chicken or an egg" I think it's understood that it's a Chicken or a Chicken Egg.
So I say chicken. It was probably some genetic freak-bird that all of the other birds wouldn't let join in their reindeer games.
