Children Temper Tantrums

So why do children temper tantrums happen? All of a sudden, your child goes from a little angel to a little terror, and you have no idea why! Basically, your child is trying to get their own way, and they won't take no for an answer!

So if you give in to their misbehaviour, and let them have what they want, they will begin to recognise this, and the child temper tantrums will continue. This is not what you want obviously.

Should you discipline your child when they're going through children temper tantrums? When you discipline them whilst they're in a tantrum, they're not going to suddenly behave all of a sudden, and not do it again. In fact, disciplining will make things worse as you will make them angrier and you only worsen the problem.

Your job as a caring parent is to help them learn that tantrums is not the way to get things, and you should set a good example of this.

I have laid out some key tips you can use when your child has typical children temper tantrums. Remember that disciplining and shouting at your child should be discouraged, as this only does further damage in the long term.

At Home:  When the child throws a tantrum at home, calmly carry them to an area where they can be left safely alone, such as a playpen. Then leave the room, shut the door, and don't go back until they simmer down. When the child is calm, discuss their behaviour with them. If you don't want to leave them alone, stay with them, but avoid any communication, eye contact included, until they calm down.

At Supermarket: This can be the worst and most embarrassing time that your child can have a tantrum. If this happens repeatedly whilst you are at the supermarket, try to avoid dragging them around with you. If this is not possible, then take this advice on board:

Keep trips as short as possible.

Bring a distraction along, such as toys of games they can do

Let your child help with the shopping by giving them chores, such as finding the milk etc.
