Learning the Chinese (Mandarin) Language

We've all probably had a plate of Kung Pao crab puffs or a bowl of wonton soup. But sometimes you can't help but wonder, "I wonder what it's like in China." Well, the food isn't the same in China as American Chinese food, so prepare to be a little disappointed if you think your order there will taste just like the take-out you ordered from your apartment last Thursday. But the fact remains that China is a country of endless wonders, and can be an excellent vacation spot for just yourself or a family adventure.

Just as if you were visiting any other foreign country, it is a wise idea to learn the basics of the native language prior to your arrival. Keep in mind how frustrating it can be when visitors from other countries come to your native land and have no idea how to communicate with you. Not only will it help your trip go much smoother, but it's important to know the native language in the event of an emergency while you're there.

The Chinese (Mandarin) Language

Mandarin Chinese is a beautiful and smart language. However, that doesn't mean you have to be a genius to learn the language. Even if you don't have time to sit in a language class, there's a method out there for you proven to teach you Mandarin Chinese in a minimal amount of time. Although Mandarin Chinese uses written symbols rather than actual words, it is quite easy and interesting to learn once you try the Pimsleur approach. And the best part is, all you have to do is listen! There's no writing, no embarrassing presentations to make in front of a class, and you can learn it any time of day at your own pace.

For about $400, you can purchase Dr. Paul Pimsleur's audio lessons to learning Mandarin Chinese, or you can purchase individual lessons for a lower price. You will learn Chinese vocabulary, culture, and how to speak basic conversational Mandarin Chinese. Actually, you will even learn how to translate your own name to the Mandarin Chinese version. The lesson includes virtually everything you need to know to be successful. You can even sample it by going to www.talking-book-store.com and listening to the lesson in action. You can download the lesson to your computer or MP3 player, or if you desire, burn it to a CD.
