Ink Sticks for grinding on to Ink stones for Chinese water colour work.

I love grinding ink sticks into ink stones.
It is possible to buy Chinese Ink ready made too.
These are one of the things in our shop which makes people think we are weird.Well I hope they see this and then decide to come in and buy some.
The painting of Chinese style pictures especially with the proper equipment is a very therapeutic thing.People with certain sensors stuck all over them have shown an immediate reduction in hypertension just upon a touch of the paper with their brush already dipped in the ink.
Ink sticks are art works in themselves.
If you do decide to use them, they actually last remarkably well.It takes a long time for them to get shorter, and the art work is often safe for quite some time.
To use them, you need an Ink Stone.
Into the Ink Stone Ink Well, you tip some water.
Dip the Ink stick into the water, dragging some back onto the main surface of the stone.
Grind Ink and Water vigorously and meditatively.
You will be creating some Ink.
How much time you spend grinding determines the darkness of your wet Ink.
Now Get your Chinese Brush, the sheet of paper, the vision of peace, and whatever you want to get out of your mind.
As I said, some people are scared to use their Ink Sticks in case they ruin the sculptures that are often on the stick.Apart from buying more than one, you actually would be amazed that it takes a lot of use to even get anywhere near the picture or carving on the Ink Stick.
Yet others do not appreciate the meditative feelings of making your own ink.
It is too easy to buy Chinese Ink for a very modest price in our case, and there is no need to spend a bit of time to create your own ink.
Actually, an advantage of using Ink Sticks over pre-prepared ink, is that it is possible to grind yourself a range of shades of your colours or of your black ink stick.

Ink Sticks
Traditionally in Asia, ink is found in the form of a solid stick. Calligraphers prepare usable ink by rubbing the stick against a wet surface of a stone ink plate. Elaborately designed ink sticks are cherished as pieces of art and have become collector's items. Start your collection with some of the

Chinese Ink

Glorious Ink

This is one of the more expensive Ink Sticks.
I think it has Pearl Dust in it.
In Chinese Characters it says on one side of the stick
"Ten thousand years brightness"
So I suppose the ink pictures you paint , or
Chinese calligraphy you produce
should still be around for a while.

A few small ink sticks.

They look great with their little dragons writhing around their stems

Very cheap but certainly will produce you some ink when you grind them into a stone.

Coloured Chinese Ink

There are some coloured Ink Sticks

When you use an ink stick, you get a meditative preparation to creativity,
and the depth of tone or colour can be adjusted by your time spent grinding.
