Chinese Ink Stones for use or for collecting

Chinese Ink Stones can be very simple or tastefully carved, usually just around the edges. The main part is flat so that you can rub a Chinese Ink Stick onto it.Just add some water.Grinding for longer gets you a rich black Ink.If you grind for a shorter amount of time, you can even aim for shades of Grey, or whatever coloured ink you are using.

Carved part of Buddha Ink Stone that uses a Red coloured Fine Stone.

There is a wooden base and lid for this stone.
It takes a little longer to grind the Ink on than others,
but you get a very nice fine ground ink.
it is Only available at Wah Lees
the shop at 220 Hobson Street, Auckland, New Zealand.
Do come and visit.

You can see the beautiful curves in this Ink Stone.

The Well is for putting the water into which you dip the ink stick ,
then, you drag the water up to the main flat area , or part of the area
and grind away to the desired depth of colour.
You can use other parts of your stone to grind the ink to differing
depths of tone.Using two brushes, you could then paint one brush with the differing tones and then painting with the painted brush will allow a
gradation of tones with the one stroke, so many strokes could result in lots of goldfish
with only lots of brush strokes.
