Christian Slater - Hollywood's Most Talented Bad Boy!

Ranked #49,357 in Entertainment, #590,333 overall

Whatever Happened to Christian Slater?

Christian Slater was a household name in the eighties and nineties in movies such as "Young Guns II" and "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves". He was also in the headlines on several occasions due to his bad boy image, and several brushes with the law.

He has been less visible in recent years, however Christian Slater made a dramatic comeback in 2008 in the television drama "My own worst enemy", although the show was cancelled after just one season.

Following his first starring role in a television drama, Christian Slater has now joined the cast of Jerry Bruckheimer's new ABC drama The Forgotten.

The story centres around a group called "The Forgotten Network", who are amateur sleuths solving murder cases, in which the victim's identity is unknown.

Christian Slater stars as the head of this group, Alex Donovan, replacing Rupert Penry-Jones who played the same role in the pilot episode.

Biography

Born on 18th August 1969 in New York, Christian Michael Leonard Slater is the son of Mary Jo Slater (a casting agent) and Michael Hawkins (a well known soap opera actor). His parents split up when he was 7 years old.

He began acting as a child, and at the age of 9 appeared in the Broadway production of "The Music Man" with Dick Van Dyke in 1980. He then made his movie debut in the film "The Legend of Billie Jean" in 1985.

In 1987, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career, where he landed the lead role in the cult movie "Heathers". However, whilst his movie career seemed to be going from strength to strength, he started hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons...

In 1989, after a night of partying, Christian decided to drive home. He ended up being chased by the police, until in his drunken state, he crashed his car. This was compounded by his running away and resisting arrest.

Then in 1994, Christian was again arrested. This time for attempting to take a gun onto a plane. While he admitted the gun belonged to him, he denied that this was intentional, instead stating that he didn't know the gun was in the bag.

He was arrested for a third time in 1997. This time he had again been partying, and wa not only very drunk, but was also high on a concoction of drugs including acid. This time he went wild and got into a fight. The police were called and found him screaming in a stairwell, and again he resisted arrest. On this occasion he was charged with three counts of assault and on of battery.

When interviewed afterwards, he claimed to have no memory of the incident, and checked into rehab. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but was released after 59 for good behaviour.

Christian married Ryan Haddon in 2000, and they had two children. They separated in 2005 and later divorced.

In addition to his sucessful movie career, Christian Slater has proved to be an equally sucessful stage actor. He made his debut on the London stage as Randle P. McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (the role played by Jack Nicholson in the movie) in August of 2004 and received a standing ovation on his first night.

Trivia

Christian Slater's role in the movie "Interview with a Vampire" was originally going to be played by his friend River Phoenix. However, before filming could start, River was found dead outside a nightclub from an overdose.

Although Christian took on the role, he refused to be paid for it. Instead he donated his entire fee for the movie to River's favourite charities.

Christian was also offered, but turned down the lead role in "The Crow", which again had been offered to River Phoenix. This role ended up beiong given to Brandon Lee, although he was accidentally killed on the set during filming.
