The first issue of Christian Activities Magazine featured singer-songwriter David Mullen on the cover. In the past 16 years, the cover has been graced by Amy Grant, Billy Graham, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Whitney Houston, Kirk Cameron, Andy Griffith, Michael English and many other gospel artists and Christian entertainers.
The Christian Activities Publications lens will cover some of the history and vision of Christian Activities from the 1980s through today.

Excerpt from 2003 Tennessean Article about Christian Activities
Christian Magazine Grew From CalendarOn January 7, 2003, Tim Adkins of The Tennessean wrote an article about Christian Activities Magazine.
Free publication focuses on positive music, activities and personalities was the header of the January 7, 2003, article in The Tennessean that covered the development of Christian Activities Magazine from a free one-page handout to its present incarnation as a statewide magazine and international website.
While working at the Koinonia Christian Bookstore in the late 1980s, Kathryn Darden saw her fair share of aspiring singers who dreamed of a career in the Christian music industry.
"There was a bus stop right outside Koinonia, and people would get off the bus with a guitar strapped on their shoulder and a bag in the other hand. They would come in and ask where to go to get started," Darden said.
Unfortunately, there was nothing to hand them, so Darden, who was the director of development at the Music Row bookstore at the time, in 1988 launched the Koinonia Concert Calendar, a free, one-page flier listing concerts and events at Nashville-area churches.

Christian Activities Publications Timeline
* In 1988, Kathryn E. Darden published a one-page concert calendar to hand out at Koinonia Christian Bookstore called the Koinonia Concert Calendar.
* In October of 1992, the first 1,000 issues of Christian Activities Nashville, a four-page newsletter about concerts in and around Nashville, were published.
* In 1995, Christian Activities expanded from a local newsletter to a statewide magazine.
* In 1995, the first online version of Christian Activities was created.
* In 1996 in honor of Tennessee's bicentennial, Christian Activities ran a series of articles about historic Tennessee churches and their impact on Tennessee's heritage. This project was in cooperation with Tennessee 200. More details at Christian Activities Goes Statewide
* In 1997 and 1998, Christian Activities sponsored Christian music night at Bellevue Station, a music venue in Nashville, Tennessee.
* In 1999, the ChristianActivities.com domain was established and a new website version of Christian Activities Online was published.
* In 2006, Christian Activities launched its MySpace page
* In 2012, Christian Activities moved to a new server and new web designer and got an upgrade

Ceili Rain at Bellevue Station
In 1997 and 1998, Christian Activities sponsored Christian music nights on Sunday nights at Bellevue Station, a small venue in Nashville, Tennessee. Artists who performed included Ceili Rain, Jeni Varnadeau, Brynn and Mark Gersmehl, Age of Faith, Amy Wolter, Jennifer Martin, Mark Smeby, and others.

Yes, I do listen to Christian music. My youngest child had some health problems as a newborn and we got into the routine of making a two hour drive to the children's hospital to have her heart problem monitored. I would lose my local radio station at some point and then have to find another one to listen to. I kept coming back to this station that played what I discovered to be Christian music. At that point in my life, I really needed something more positive and more hope-inspiring than mainstream pop music had to offer. This was it! I've been listening to Christian music ever since. And in case you're wondering, my baby is now a happy, healthy teenager.

I do enjoy listening to contemporary Christian music as well as inspirational gospel. My favorite genre is Celtic Christian music, however, and I love instrumentals of hymns.
