Just a few things I want for Christmas
For years I have been making Christmas gift lists for family and friends and I never have really made one for myself. I have always appreciated what my family and friends have given me but this year I thought it would be interesting if I made a gift list that was just a few things that I would like for Christmas this year. Nothing fancy, we are not talking a Mercedes here ah hum, no just stuff you can get at Amazon, basically my favorite place to shop. So here goes and I will update you on how many gifts I actually get from my list.
Only 5 things on my list.
And the 5 things are mostly books.
Okay everyone that knows me probably knows that I am a voracious reader (thats reader not eater). Okay I started getting interested in reading from a very young age. I read Charlotte's Web and I was hooked. I read everything. I would even read the cereal cover front and back while I was eating breakfast. I couldn;t stop reading. When I got older as a teen I started getting very interested in History as it was my favorite subject in school, that led me to reading biographies. I love reading biographies about people who make an impression on me. Sometimes even if I do not like the person, I find that there is still something interesting about this person, otherwise why would he or she have a book right? Well that's my thing, I love to read and I love to write as well but not as much as reading. So in my wish list there are some biographies that I really want to check out. #1 Lucille Ball
I love lucy forever
Okay, again anyone who knows me well knows that I have every I love lucy episode on dvd. I watch her all the time and she has always been my all time favorite comediean. She was great and funny and remarkable how she made her own studio way back then when women were not taken seriously. I know a lot about her life as Lucy on her shows but not much about her beginings. Apparently, her children found a book that she wrote about 30 years ago, there has to be some juicy stuff in there if she didn't want it published back then for fear of hurting someone but her kids apparently were rummaging her things and found it and published it. Its called Love Lucy, and it is supposed to be about her view of things that happened in her life and it looks like a must read for any Lucy fan. #2 A book
By Desi Arnaz
Now this is one of those books that I have always wanted to read but never got around to reading it. I think there is a side to every story and I would love to hear Desi's side of things. I know he has recieved a bad wrap for being a bit of a wolf but he was the first hispanic on a major television show and Lucy and Desi were the first bi-racial couple on televison. They almost didn't make it past the big whigs but Lucy said it was Desi or nothing, and of course she had a lot of pull, later on it was Dezi who actually produced the show and formed Desilu and invented the 3 camera angles that are still being used today. I don't know much about Desi except that he was raised as a very rich kid in Cuba because his dad was a big shot but later ended up in jail leaving Desi to take care of his mother and when his father came out of prison, they all made it to the United States. But he was very talented and a big shot himself in Cuba in the Mambo band category. But hopefully his life is an interesting read before Lucy intered his life. Little known fact about Desi is that he went to the University of Cuba with Al Capone. #3 The Other side of Ethel Mertz
Her turn
I found out recently that there was a book about Vivian Vance because I have always looked for biographies of her but could never find anything that didn't have Lucy on the cover as well. I wanted to read about just her. Well I found this synopsis on her life and it sounded interesting. She started on broadway and was married 4 times and her last husband who was 11 years her junior was actually bisexual who had been in a 20 year relationship with another man before he married Vivian. That sounds pretty juicy to me and so I would love to read about her because apparently she was really depressed during most of the I Lucy Lucy shows because of the impact of the show on her image. She had been a raving beauty on broadway and Lucy did a make under of sorts for her to appear as frumpy, and Vivian was pretty upset to have to be married on the show to such an old man as William Frawley, who was like 30 years older than her. Not to mention that in her contract she always had to appear frumpier and heavier than Lucy so she always had to be 20 pounds heavier than Lucy. Anyway, sounds like an interesting story as well and it is on my wish list. #4 Sarah Palin
Going Rogue An American Life
Okay so she probably didn't write the book herself and she probably embellished a lot of stuff to make herself look like the victim here. But I think that it's interesting that a Governor of Alaska that hardly anyone ever heard about suddenly was chosen to run for the second most important office of the United States. Makes you think huh? This is one of those characters that I find interesting and don't particularly like but there has to be something that movitvated her to want to be such a target of humiliation as she was. Clearly she was not ready to be vice president but I wanna know a little more about the whole thing than what we are being told. So she is #4 on my wish list because it will be interesting what she has to say about all the publicity and all the shots at her family. So I wanna hear it from the horses mouth herself whomever that may be nonetheless, I still want it. You Betcha!!! #5 The Kindle
