Christmas Insights - 3 Popular Christmas Symbols Reveal the Spirit of christmas!
by Bernadette Dimitrov - The HoHoHo Expert!
Christmas bells - Traditionally bells are rung to celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas morning. In olden times bells were assumed to chase away evil spirits said to be repelled by the noise. Bells represent the death of ignorance and the birth of enlightenment. In modern times Father Christmas uses jingling bells accompanying his sleigh progress to announce the birth of new beginnings and to remind us that goodness is within the hearts of all!
Candy cane - They originated in the 17th century. A Choirmaster in Germany suggested that a local craftsman make candy in the shape of shepherd's crooks. The idea was to pass them out to children during ceremonies at the nativity scene to keep them quiet! The design was kept in tune with the festivities - white with red strips. Red symbolizing new life, white for purity and the three strips representing the three Gods, The Father, The Son (Jesus Christ) and The Holy Ghost.
Christmas Stockings - Legend says that a nobleman foolishly squandered his entire fortune after the death of his wife leaving 3 young daughters without dowries. This meant a life of spinsterhood not favored in these times. The shy but generous St Nicholas (today most commonly known as Santa Claus) heard of the girls plight and came to their aide. Wanting to stay anonymous, St Nicholas rode his horse by their house and threw 3 small bags of gold coins into the chimney which were fortuitously captured by the young women's stockings hung by the fireplace to dry. Hence the hanging of stockings became hugely popular in the hope of a great surprise.

Christmas & Giving - 7 Benefits of Generosity!
By Bernadette Dimitrov, The HoHoHo Expert, www.HoHoHoChristmas.com
Christmas is a prominent time synonymous with giving. Giving is the act of generosity. It nourishes love in our relationships and builds the human spirit. Christmas is a time where people are renowned to give without expectation. Health professionals tell us that those who give and who do not feel diminished by the act of giving are the most psychologically healthy in our society today. Christmas is a wonderful time to start your practice of generosity. Here are seven benefits of giving and why you will want to incorporate them not only at Christmas but in your daily life:
1. Builds relationships - giving reinforces appreciations and acknowledgement of each other and thus is an important ingredient for building relationships.
2. Deepens relationships - by sharing past and future thoughts we give of our selves in an intimate way. It can be a wonderful deepening ritual such as at Christmas to come together and openly give and share feelings, experiences and wishes.
3. Expresses feelings - giving is a way to express and show feelings especially if you are not comfortable expressing feelings through words. Giving is an opportunity to express a whole range of feelings such as gratitude, appreciations and thanks.
4. Creates memories - through giving we have many ways to create and leave lasting memories. Our willingness to care, show interest, give time, loyalty, honesty and by going out of our way to do something extra for someone else such as preparing a special meal, writing a special verse on why we love and cherish someone or making a special gift as a symbol of our love, are some of the ways we can give and create lasting memories.
5. Creates Predictability - we all love predictability; especially children as it gives them a sense of security. Through the predictable act of giving especially at birthdays and Christmas celebrations, the expectation of appreciations, acknowledgement, love and being made to feel extra special is created by the ritual of giving.
6. De-stressor - giving is all about looking outside of ourselves with no expectation of anything in return. It is putting others first for concentrated moments in time. The ritual of giving takes the focus off ourselves and our stresses in life are handled with a more balanced focus.
7. Creates Miracles - connecting into the community by giving has huge benefits. It reinforces love in all our lives. It creates leverage which creates miracles when together we give for the g
Official home of Santa Claus - Santa Village, Lapland, Finland
For a holiday of a life time - visit Santa's official home!
This is the most magical place on the planet.Open 12 months of year - a visual fantasy land, the official home of Santa Claus!
Santa Claus' Village and SantaPark are easy to reach. The Village is located 8 km north of the centre of Rovaniemi, the capital of the Lapland in Finland. SantaPark is situated 2 km south of Santa Claus' Village.
The international airport of Rovaniemi, Finland's third biggest airport, is situated just 2 km from Santa Claus' Village and SantaPark. Santa Claus' Village can be reached by bus and by car.
Santa Claus lives in Lapland, in the north of Finland. You can meet him any day of the year in Rovaniemi, in Santa Claus' Village on the Arctic Circle.
Santa's secret getaway is in the East of Lapland, on the Korvatunturi Fell, where he was first spotted in the 1920's. The secluded area of Korvatunturi, impossible to reach by anyone else, is situated on the border between Finland and Russia. Mrs. Claus lives there, and so do the elves that prepare the gifts. The Korvatunturi Fell is 483 metres high, and is the shape of an ear. With the unique shape of the fell, Santa can listen to all the children around the world.
As early as in the 1950's Santa would often enjoy visiting the Arctic Circle near the town of Rovaniemi, not only on Christmas but all throughout the year, to visit both children and child-like. By 1985, his visits had become so regular that he founded his own village there. Today, his village includes Santa Claus' Office and Santa Claus' Main Post Office as well as the reindeer park and SantaPark nearby.
Santa Claus comes to the Santa Claus Village every day of the year to listen to children's wishes and to talk to people from all over the world.

Who wouldn't want to have a joyous family tradition that can create heirlooms to be handed down from one generation to another? In the western world most people have you ever heard of 'santons' however they are big for Christmas collectors in Europe and are a beloved family tradition.
Santon is derived from the word 'santouon' which means 'little saint'. They are clay figures, hand painted and about 70 millimeter high representing 19th century French Provencal characters.
Many people have a real passion for collecting these figures. There are hundreds of different figures, animals and accessories from which to choose. There are bakers, millers, fishermen, water carriers and even bear trainers! It is popular for most families to add a piece or two every year to their home collections. Santon collections are considered family heirlooms which are passed down lovingly from parent to child through the generations. Each year families enjoy the fun of choosing a new addition or two for their collections.
Santon making is said to have began as a popular act of resistance during the French Revolution to the closing of churches during this time. Creches were before the French Revolution big business and were displayed in the churches where crowds flocked to view the elaborate designs. With the churches closed the people's beloved creches were no longer available for public access. It was Jean-Louise Lagnel (1764-1822) from Marseilles who started to make the beloved creche figures for people to purchase for display in their own homes. Jean-Louise was in demand with his affordable priced figures.
Jean-Louise Lagnel used the province of Marseille's and Aubagne's fine clay. He used small moulds and the casts were hand painted. It didn't take long for others to start perfecting his technique. The figures were referred to as 'creches for the people'. Soon santon makers added local characters and trades which became popular. The santon makers idea of using ordinary people from every day life on their way to pay homage to the Holy Family became an instant hit. Later santon fairs were held throughout regions. Today the oldest and also the largest (founded in 1803) is still alive and popular today in Marseille. It is held from Advent through to Epiphany. It is an event not to be missed!

Reviving the Christmas spirit!
By ANN SANNER, ssociated Press Writer
WASHINGTON -- It might have been 80 degrees outside but it was snowing inside Ford's Theatre on Sunday, where President Bush attended a taping of an ABC holiday program.
Country singer Wynonna opened the show by performing "Winter Wonderland" on a stage decorated with white lights, Christmas trees and a sleigh. She asked Bush if he had done his Christmas shopping yet.
"Do you know what you're planning on getting your beautiful wife?" Wynonna asked. "Whatever she wants, right?" The president's response was inaudible.
The Ford's Theatre gala usually airs July Fourth, but ABC will televise this event in December in an effort to attract broader viewership.
Other performers included singers Yolanda Adams, Olivia Newton-John and Jon Secada, comedian Christopher Titus and "Dancing with the Stars" dancers Jonathan Roberts and Karina Smirnoff.
First lady Laura Bush was the gala's honorary chair.
Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and civil rights veteran, and Civil War historian James McPherson were awarded Lincoln Medals. The award is given to those who exemplify President Lincoln's legacy and character through their work, accomplishments or personal attributes.
The annual benefit is held at the landmark theater where Lincoln was fatally shot in 1865.
"President Lincoln had a great appreciation for the performing arts," Bush said. "They offered relief amid the agonies of war, and he would likely be pleased that Ford's Theatre continues to bring together talented performers from across our country, including those with us tonight."

International University of Santa!
Santa is already preparing for Christmas
DALLAS, June 25 (UPI) -- It was Christmas during the weekend at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, as mall Santas brushed up on their skills in two days of Santa classes.
Tim Connaghan, or "Santa Tim," leads the seminar, in which future mall Santas learn the dos and don'ts of the modern Santa, The Dallas Morning News reported.
"Behind the Red Suit -- the Business of Santa" offers tips for etiquette, like toning down a booming "ho ho ho" when small children are around. Also, Connaghan advises Santas never to correct, reprimand or deny a child.
The seminar also offers tips on how to get around modern obstacles like the "Merry Christmas" vs. "Seasons Greetings" controversy -- which has become a stickier issue as U.S. culture has become more ethnically diverse.
"Here's my best advice," Connaghan told the newspaper. "If someone says 'Merry Christmas' to you, say it back to them. Otherwise, say 'Season's greetings' or 'Happy holidays.'"
Sixteen Santas -- and even a few Mrs. Clauses -- attended Connaghan's seminar, which he calls the International University of Santa. By Copyright 2007 United Press International, Inc.

Visit www.TheFamilyYak.com for Rudolph's interview with Mrs Claus!
Christmas Insights - Origin & Inspirational Meaning & Lesson from Rudolph The Red-Nose Reindeer!A story book for Christmas was created in 1939 during the time of the great depression. The story was created for the Chicargo based Montgomery Wards Department Stores featuring a new character called Rudolph. One of the highlights for the Christmas season was for parents to take their children for a visit to large department stores such as Montgomery Wards to visit Santa, sit on his knee and receive a gift. For many years the Montgomery Wards Santa gave away from his Christmas sack a specially printed Christmas color-in book. The store wanted to save money and do something different so it gave one of its stores copywriters, 34 year old Rudolph L May the job of coming up with a story. May was said to be taunted as a child because he was shy and small in statue. It is believed that the idea of being ostracized came from his own personal experiences. May created Rudolph with similar problems who in the end rises above his problems and is transformed.
Originally May wrote the story as a rhyming verse which his young 4 years old daughter Barbara loved. Originally store owners thought a red nose may be inappropriate as generally a red nose was associated with drinking. However after illustrations surfaced this suggestion was dismissed and the story was approved. The story book of Rudolph soon filled Santa's sack as a give-away; a new gimmick for promotions which took on immediate success in the Montgomery Wards stores.
