Page Readers talks with author Cindie Miller
Cindie Miller, author of "Ask Me No Questions", joined me to discuss her story and the excitement surrounding her book that was released in October 2009.
"Ask Me No Questions" is the fictional story based on Cindie's life while she was married to a man she believed to be a secret agent with the CIA in the 60's and 70's. When writing the story, she referred often to the many journals that she had kept during her life. However, when she was searching for a publisher, she was told that her story would not work as a memoir. She spent 7 years writing and then re-writing the novel into a fictional story.
During the interview, Cindie talks about how her life has changed since those early years, how she and her daughters continue to deal with the effects of having experienced such an abusive existence. She tells how hard it was for her to get help from social services during her years in hiding, and how her ex-husband kidnapped her children and kept them for six months before he abandoned them at their grandmothers.
Cindie gives back to her community as an advocate for victims of domestic violence. She speaks with high school and college students about abusive relationships and behaviors, self-esteem and other issues related to domestic violence. So if you're involved in organizing such events - contact Cindie to be a speaker!
Right now she is working on the sequel to "Ask Me No Questions", starting where the first book left off with Cindie finally finding the courage and strength to finally leave her husband and start a new life with her children. I'm looking forward to reading it!
Cindie has a couple of events coming up and keeps her website up to date, so please visit her at http://www.cindiemiller.com

Review of "Ask Me No Questions"
Ask Me No Questions is a fictional story based on the true life events of author Cindie Miller. The story begins when her character Stephani is 16 and full of dreams like any American Teenager in the Spring of 1965. She meets the older and mysterious Vic and without the consent of her parents she allows a relationship to grow until she finds herself pregnant and married soon after.
Stephani's life is a constant balancing act of trying to please a man who can never be happy and keeping her own sanity amidst the stream of lies she is fed by a man she believes to be an agent for the CIA who is sacrificing his own life for his country.
Through the years she raises 4 daughters while being moved around the country with little to no notice because of so-called secret missions being discovered. She is unable to develop relationships with others because she can never disclose the truth of her own twisted life. After suffering years of mental, emotional and physical abuse, Stephani finally finds the strength to save herself and her children from this deranged man.
This story took Cindie 20 years to complete including 7 re-writes. Originally written as a memoir she found no publisher would accept it. It wasn't until she turned the story into a fictional story based on her own life was she able to find a home with Publish America.
Released in October 2009, "Ask Me No Questions" has quickly become a favorite in the school library where Cindie teaches High School English and Drama. To Cindie, this is a dream come true bringing a message of courage to girls who are where she was when this story began.
Cindie also takes her message to victims of Domestic Violence as a speaker and advocate for women and children who suffer as she did. She wants these people to understand that no matter how bad the circumstances, there is help, there is hope.
Currently, Cindie is working on the sequel to "Ask Me No Questions" and hopes to have the book done by the end of 2010. Picking up where the story ended, this second part will be Cindie's story of freedom and strength, taking the courage to take control of her own life and that of her children.
