Cindy Lou Hensley McCain (born May 20, 1954) is an American businesswoman, and philanthropist, and the wife of United States Senator and 2000 and 2008 presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona.
She was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona as the daughter of wealthy beer distributor Jim Hensley. After receiving bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern California, she became a special education teacher. Cindy graduated from Southern Cal with and undergraduate degree in Education and a Master's in Special Education. While attending USC, not only was she a cheerleader, she also participated in pilot programs testing Movement Therapy which later became a standard for working with severely disabled children.After graduation, she worked as a teacher at Agua Fria High School in Arizona as a special needs teacher working with children with downs syndrome.
Cindy McCain Adopted Daughter

Cindy founded a group of Arizona doctors and nurses that traveled to areas of the world to serve those who needed medical assistance. On one trip to Bangladesh, she found a baby that was living at an orphanage run by Mother Theresa. This child needed more medical care than the team could provide on the trip and it looked like the baby may not survive. Cindy took it upon herself to bundle up this orphan to bring home for adoption.
She called John from an airport to let him know that he was about to have another child. Their daughter Bridget is now a young adult and like the rest of the McCain children, she is kept away from the media for their privacy.
Halo Trust
Cindy is a member of the board of trustees for the organization Halo Trust. Their mission is to clear land mines from war torn regions and to provide clean water and food to those in need. CARE works to help to equip the poor with the proper resources to help the women, their families, and entire communities to escape poverty. Cindy McCain has an adventurous spirit not only does she love to drive race cars(her company distributes NASCAR which was its official beer for years), she also knows how to fly a plane!
Cindy know that she was going to be doing a lot of flying as part of her husband's 1982 Congressional campaign, so she decided to attend a flight school to help her overcome her fear of flying. In doing so, she received flight training and earned her private certificate.

- Cindy McCain is an incredible woman. When I was watching Sarah Palin talk about John McCain, they camera was on Cindy and you could see the pride she felt for him shine from her eyes. To me, that speaks more words about the next president than anything else.
