Classic Arcade Games

I grew up in the 80's and I loved Arcade Games. There used to be Arcades all over the place. But, now they have practically disappeared. It was so much fun getting the high score on a game or beating my opponents. Sure you can play against other players today online and with gadgets like XBox Live. But, it just isn't the same. It was just awesome having a crowd of other players gathered around the Arcade Machine hoping that they might be able to beat you. I would save up my quarters and on the weekends I would head to a local arcade with my friends. A few times a year I would even travel 2 hours to Laconia New Hampshire to go to FunSpot. Today FunSpot is actually now considered The American Arcade Museum. It has 3 floors of classic arcade machines. In the mid 70's to mid 80's arcades were huge. They showed up in malls, in bowling alleys and even restaurants. Some of my favorite games would include Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong Jr., Ghouls and Ghosts, Double Dragon and Chase HQ. I later had a knack for fighting games. I became really good at the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games.

When I was 8 years old and my mom said we were going to the mall I could always fish some loose change out from under my old mans lazy boy. I could usually get lucky under the couch cushions as well:) In 1984 when I was 14 I mastered Dragon's Lair and it was quite a thrill to have a bunch of late teens and early twenty somethings watch with amazement as I slayed the dragon. Arcades were a fun part of growing up.

Thanks it is nice to know others miss the Arcade as much as I do. It is sad seeing them all disappear. Near my house is an old arcade with a Go kart track and now it is a daycare. Not much further on the same road is another one that is closed that used to be a mini golf place too. Sadly my kids and I drive by and wish we could use the mini golf course. Everything is still there with a big fence around it. It is such a waste. [in reply to AppalachianCountry]

Great lens. Those were the days. Even the small town near us had an arcade. Thank-you for the wonderful memory. 5 stars*****

Thanks Keith, I'm glad you had as much fun with arcade games as I did. Most of the arcades around me have vanished. But, I do my best to at least play a couple at the movie theater, when I take my boys to Chuck E. Cheese and sometimes we get to Funspot in New Hampshire. That place is amazing. Good luck with the houses.
