This is the story of the Godolphin Arabian which is the most recognized ancestor of the superior thoroughbred horses like Man 'o War and Seabiscuit. It is highly fictionalized but still makes a great read.

The young king sent them all back except one (Sham, the hero horse of this book) because his cook needed a cart horse.

The story chronicles his travels from Morocco to France to England where, at last Sham is recognized for his beauty and superior bloodlines.

Misty of Chincoteague is a 1947 book written by Marguerite Henry,. The book is based on the true story of a Chincoteague Pony named Misty. The book is about the Beebe family where a young boy and girl set out to raise a foal born from a wild pony.mare called Phantom that was caught during the pony roundup.

A foal, born in the aftermath of a great storm, and her famous mother help raise money to repair the storm damage on Chincoteague Island and restore the herds of wild ponies on Assateague Island.

Story Premise Brighty is based on actual incidents in the life of a Grand Canyon burro. Once again the story is highly fictionalized but it offers an interesting story of intrigue as Brighty searches for the killer of his prospector friend.

This book tells the story of a man (Justing Morgan) who is given a small runty horse in lieu of cash payment. He doesn't want the horse but as it's small and runty he really can't sell it either. He has a friend Joel break the colt and they soon discover he is a powerfully built little horse. This is based on the true story about how this one horse becomes the foundation for the breed, The American Morgan Horse.

This book is actually a combination of two true stories about American trotters and the Hambletonian race. The hero of our story is hospitalized where he reads the story of the first Hambletonian AFter he recovers he takes his horse Rosalind, (who's descended from Hambletonian) and rises to greatness as a racer.

Story Premise This is the story of a Viennese boy who's dream is to ride with the Spanish Riding School of his native Vienna. The story is about how attains this goal. Once again the illustrations are stunning.

There is no story per se with this book. It is a compilation of horse breeds accompanied by the breeds history told in a warm story telling fashion. Not just the cold facts.

This was not a book I owned but I do remember checking it out of the school library countless times to flip through the many pictures of different horse breeds and read a little about them. Once again the book is graced with the art of Wesley Dennis
